The perfect tool kit?

Hey everyone~
well spring and summer driving are just around the corner, and with a car that is 8 years older than I am, I may have to deal with some problems on the road, so I was just wondering what should be included to compile the "perfect tool kit" in my trunk?
thanks
mike

I've given serious thought to a bumper hitch and my Craftsman double-tier tool chest.

It's not that I don't maintain my 914 in tip-top condition (old whore that she is), or don't trust my extensive electro-mechanical capabilities. It's just that my AAA Plus card and cell phone are the 2 most important tools I carry; always.

Hey, spare clutch cable & flat fix & multi-jointed-SAE/Metric-ended-screwpliers for 3 Easy Payments Of Just $29.95! aside, do you really see yourself crawling around under your 914 in a muddy ditch, wondering why she idles just great, but the gas pedal sits completely on the floor?

"Beep, beep, boop, beep, boop, boop, beep. Hello? Yeah; little red whore, about yay high. Flashers on; I'm drinking coffee in 7-11. Say what? What's a 914?"

[Let the sarcasm begin…]

What should be included in the perfect tool kit?

A cell phone and the number of a good towing service (tow strap and best friends phone number might do); a snack to eat and the latest Craftsman catalogue to read while you wait for the tow.

[Okay, seriously…]

Think about the things that could go wrong, and that you could fix on the road, and go from there. An extra clutch cable isn’t all that bad of an idea, and I’ve heard it suggested time and again, but do you really want to be underneath your car supported by a tire jack? Are you going to have jack stands with you? Probably not.

I’d include Fix-A-Flat, a regular old basic tool kit, electrical tape, maybe an extra fan belt?

Oh, and a hammer. They always seem to come in handy when working on the 914 in the garage. [More sarcasm…]

Yeah, CWP; I was trying to figure out that fuel tank magnet thing, too.

Maybe ... for lining up the gas molecules before entering the fuel lines?

Originally I thought the skateboard was for shortening the long walk to 7-11; I was heading out to go buy one. Unfortunately, I was wrong.

I think the theory is to catch the rust flakes before they get sucked into the fuel lines.

The magnet is to catch the rust. The skateboard is to remove the engine after you get back from the 7/11 with the Beer for your new freinds that have takin an interest in your funny lookin ferin kiddy car.Steve

Based on my cross country trip in my 914 a few years ago, I don't remember what all I had, but the usefull stuff was..

lots of tools (socket set, hammers, pliers, cordless drill, etc.)
jack stands
extra fuel line
fuses
golf pencils and tees (for pluging fuel and vacuum lines)

what I wish I had

Cold beer
a jack other than the factory one
Cold beer
an extra fuel pump
more cold beer
sense enough not to make the trip (actually looking back it was a great deal of fun, glad I did it.)

I just found the story yesterday that I had written about it, I'll put it on the website soon.
