window differences

i bought a passenger side window out of a '73 for my '71. the seller is shipping it to me, but he said there are slight differences in the "later" windows. something about the bottom front being thicker?

should i expect problems when i try to install it? or can i still make it work?

I'd hold out for a 70-72 window, if I were you. The window winder mechanism is completely different, and the shape of the glass is different. I believe the later windows have a larger angled-down piece at the rear of the window. You can see it in the picture here:

Sadly, we don't have a similar picture for the early glass. But the part that sticks down is smaller, and it has two attachments on it (glued??) in the middle and at the rear to hook up to the winder mechanism. You'll note that the late window has a single large attachment.

I don't think that rear attachment will be correctly located if you use a late window in your car.

And it's not worth it to try to update the winding mechanism--you have to completely gut the door and weld in new parts, from what I can tell. It's easier just to change doors and repaint.

You can also convert the early cars from the cable driven window cranks to the later style which use a sizzor crank and goe up and down much smoother.

I'm not completely sure if the later window will work but the later windows have the glass angled downward at the rear/bottom of the glass. The bracket that the glass fits in is not the complete legnth of the glass so the angled part is not affected. The only way the window won't work is if the early cars have a longer bracket which the glass fits into and so the angled part of the glass won't fit. Other than the angled part, the windows are the same.

I have both types of glass and brackets that I was planning on putting on e-bay so ir you need anything, send me a note.
