After not being in my 914 for about 6 years (sat in parents garage) I am working on making her road worthy again. I am going to drop the engine today so I can clean up all the overspray on what was once a beautiful powder coated engine. Anyway, what are some bolt on ways to increase performance? sport exhaust? What else? Also, I discovered I have 2-1.7 L injectors and 2-2.0 L injectors. thank the factory for color coding? i am expecting my fix on this to give me at least another 20 HP!
Thanks, And this website is the best thing for the 914 owner I have seen! Shane |

sorry to burst your bubble, but i don't think replacing 2 injectors is going to give you 20hp..
![]() search back in the archives for "muffler".. if i remember correctly, unless you go with one of the high dollar race headers & mufflers, the gain is limited to about 5hp, and moves your power range up a bit. this subject is constantly being visited on the site (more power).. do some browsing, and come up with your own decision on what you want to do with *your* car.. there's cheap (but also limited) power that can be had, but no free power... Actually, I can think of one or two things that are indeed "free power". They pretty much fall into the category of "make sure your engine is in spec." The one of those that immediately leaps to mind is to have someone press the throttle all the way to the floor, and go look at the throttle valve. The butterfly valve should be all the way open--the plate should be straight up-and-down. If it isn't, then adjust the throttle linkage until it is.
Ta-daa! "Free" horsepower. Similarly, make sure your timing and dwell are set correctly. And so on. --DD |
