NEW to 914-Where to add oil to engine?

Hello, I am new to the 914. I just bought a 76 with the 2L upgraded to 2.5l engine. I drained and replaced the oil/filter.. Could some one PLEASE tell me where the plug is located to add oil to the engine. I see the breather sticking up in the air.with two hoses running to the side of the engine (posible return line to crankcase?). There is also a black plastic plug towards the center/back of the case. A picture would be great. Thanks in advance..AL Z

Right next to the dipstick is the filler, round, right in the middle in front of motor.

DO NOT overtighten the nut in the center of round cover for the screen on the bottom, can do serious engine damage.

Do some looking about here or at 914world.com or 914club.com.

I assume the 2.5L engine is a four-cylinder? If so, the filler would be that funnel-looking thing on the breather. The cap will probably say "OEL" on it.

Unless you have a very significantly non-stock motor, that is. In which case, you really should post a picture so we can help figure it out.

Thanks for the responds. Here is a pic of the engine. I am pretty sure the breather on the engine is after market. There is a plastic tube with a breather on top surrounded with an aluminum cap. I think I will have to remove the clamp that holds the breather to be able to use the plastic tube to add the oil. Is this correct? Thanks in advance...AL Z

That would be one way to do it.

Look around for extra funnel-shaped things with caps over them. There may be one up at the left front of the engine bay, coming up from the bottom of the front side of the engine.

Look around for an extra tank (often in the left fender, with bits poking into the engine bay through the left wall) that would hold oil. If there isn't an oil filter sticking out of the left side of the engine bay, the next most likely suspect there would be any large-ish stainless-steel-looking cylinder. (This would be an external oil tank for a dry-sump system; very unusual but not unheard of for race motors.)
