Have the rebuild and engine back into car, re-installed all the FI the PO had removed and fortunately saved in a box for me. Turn the key and no fuel pump, if you crank the starter then you get the 12v to the pump connection. From previous posts I thought the fuel pump was to run ~1.5 seconds. I didn't get a chance to trouble shoot very long. Maybe someone could point me to a starting point. It is the 1.8 with L-Jet.

well first on the 1.8 the feul pump does not run for the 1.5 second, it runs when the starter is cranking
check the double relay one is the main relay the other is feed from the air flow sensor pump contact you can pull the cover off of it and push the relay by hand, with the cover off the one you want is the left one as you look at the relay side ( as opposed to the circuit board side ) if that does it then the problem is betwwen the air flow pump contact and the relay check the big red wire from the relay pack to the battery ( about 8 or 10 guage ) while you are in the relay chech that the contact is good mine burnt off and i hard to solder it back on also the relay on the reg board does nothing on a afc fi system but it can be jumped out to make it run if you still need more help email me ------------------ scott thacher 75 1.8 on the road again 75 under rust (fine german rust) |

You need three things for the engine to run:
1) Air (or compression) 2) Fuel 3) Spark If you have all of these, then the rest is a question of how much fuel, and a question of timing. Check for the basic three things. Do a compression check. Check for spark--a spare spark plug, taped to a ground, should give you a visible spark when the engine is cranked. Make sure fuel is going in. You can pull a fuel injector and put it into a jar (disconnect the coil if you do this, to avoid sparks!!) and look to make sure it squirts fuel. After that, you should check the static timing and then start checking FI components. --DD ------------------ Pelican Parts 914 Tech Support A few pics of my car: http://www.pelicanparts.com/gallery/Dave_Darling |

OK, looks like the fuel pump is no good, turns very slow and +12v at the fuel pump connection. Looking for a pump now.
