transmission problem

hey, haven't been on here in a while. Last summer my transmission had began to actually shift over to the right, reverse where 2nd is, 1st where 3rd would be. The next day when i tried to started the car up it wouldnt go into any gear. It's like everything just shifted over to the right. Does anyone know what this might be? or how to fix it?

thanks, -Rob

Something is wrong with the shift linkage. Try adjusting it (procedure in Haynes, also in one of our Tech Articles). At a guess, one of the clamps or set screws is loose in your linkage, allowing things to move around.

Might be a good idea to at least look at the rest of the linkage, too.

I agree with Dave, definitely sounds like a linkage issue. The "cone" screws are notorious for breaking. If they look OK, then I'd check bushings. If they look OK, it is time too look at the shift linkage adjustment.

my money is on cone screws, get new ones and use blue loctite on them, but check the bushings before you screw it all together. Might want to just replace the bushings, if they are of unknown age
