Rebuilt Motor Tuning
Just rebuilt a motor and went with dual Webers with the stock dizzy. Anything in particular I should do to tune it? I just turned the dizzy until it sounded right and idled good and left it there? Anything else

Well, you should actually set the timing correctly, which on a 73 (1.7 or 2.0) means 27 degrees BTDC at 3500 RPM, with the distributor vacuum hoses disconnected. Yes, you'll need a timing light.
Then you'll want to get the carbs all set up for the motor; they aren't right for our motors "out of the box". I'll let someone with more carb experience talk about that... --DD

Vance,
Google Mark Harney carburetor clinic. He has an EXCELLENT weber setup and tuning guide on his website. I rebuild my Dellortos using the same info. Mark even emailed me some tips even though he knew he wasn't going to be doing my rebuild. Float height is critical for proper operation, and he outlines how to set them. If you want someone else to do it for you, Mark is a first-rate guy. If you want the car to really run well with the carbs, ditch your dizzy and buy a Mallory Unilite from Jake Raby--pricey at $275'ish, but worth every penny. It's truly set it and forget it. Just my $.02 --Jaybird |
