The Real Current Value of 914 2.0

I made the mistake of posting a WTB for a excellent condition orange 914 2.0. I received lots of responses. Everybody said pretty much the same thing;..."Mine is not for sale, but if you want to pay me $20,000 plus, I might be willing so sell it". I'm not a charity organization.

What is the actual value of an excellent condition 914 2.0? I mean, if somebody actually wanted to sell it.

I sold a really nice one...stock and newly refurbished for 16K recently. Only mod was a five lug and 911 Fuchs.

According to Excellenence Magazine (who tend to be on the low side) you can plan on spending $15k-$20k on an excellent cond 914 2.0. If you find one cheaper, jump on it!!

We sold a 914 2.0 that was in excellent cond, not perfect, for $14500 2 years ago in a matter of 3 days. 2 buyers were fighting over it.

$700 to $10,000 is going price. 914 boards are usully the worst place to buy an excellent condition car.

Use google and seach: porsche 914 for sale.

Local show worthy... 15k
Porsche show worthy... 20k & up


These are just my estimates. Right now is actually a good time to buy as prices are down a little.

p.s. By "show worthy" I mean capable to win an award at an event.

Excellent information, thank you. It is just as I suspected. The 914s peaked in value sometime in early 2007 (same as houses, stocks, Ferrari's, etc). There are no 2008 sales on your list higher than $15,100. It would only figure that these cars are coming down with everything else.

Craig, I sold my 1975 2.0 for $15,500 on ebay on 3 Aug 2008. Excellent car with
75,000 miles. Mostly original paint. Plus the owner agreed to purchase all the PCA awards in addition to the selling price of the car. So was close to 16K when all said and done.
The silver car with 25,000 miles on it, I paid 22k for several weeks prior. The silver 74 was the Christies Auction car I told you about. That time was about peek for the 914 sales.
Shortly after, there was a drop in prices. I'm sure most of the people with the real nice ones will try to hold on to them until the value appreciates again. But who knows in 6-9 months from now. There might be some good deals comming along. In regards to your question, if you can find a mint original low milage car in the high teens, I would grab it. Not to say that it's not going to depreciate in the future, being there is so much uncertianty. Or wait it out abit and see what surfaces down the road.
George Hussey just picked a very nice original 76 with 55k on it for 7k I believe. There are deals to be found. But I think he was very lucky to get it at that price.

I'd say...depends entirely on the car.

THe "market value index's" tend to place a fairly high value on nice '73 or '74 2.0 cars.

And by "fairly high" I mean $15K plus. That would be before the market corrects, I think.

The real world? All over the place. I've seen slightly tatty drivers, with a little rust, for as low as $3800, and pretty nice cars in the $7500 range. Drivers, with stock wheels. It goes up from there.

Some modified cars can be cheaper, again depending- there was a guy selling his "track car" a '74 with fiberglass flares for $4500, which looked OK from 10 feet, but the interior looked like a homeless guy had been living in it.

I've also notice a large number of half-done project cars all taken apart for sale, and all of them seem insanely priced. I know, I know, you have a ton of $ into your half-finished restoration. But don't expect me to give you $10K for a car that I still have to paint and reassemble.

I would expect for $8 -10K you could expect a nice clean car. Not going to take home any ribbons, but a car with a nice interior, everything works, relatively rust free.

I'm sure someone will. I'll never forget the jerk at a show a couple of years ago who asked me what I paid for mine. When I told him ($6500) he rolled his eyes and walked away without a word. Wonder what he'd say to this thread? That's why today when anyone asks what I paid, I don't answer.
