New to board, looking for an upgrade for 71 FI, Is there a modern replacement system?
Ive reciently bought a 71 914 from my father, he says it has a problem when runing of motor stoping or "misfireing" when running, Im going to get the motor rebuilt, but in the mean time is there a modern replacement for the stock FI? Im not too worried about pure stock, Im going to use this as a daily drive and want reliability..
Thanks in advance. |

Might be a good idea to find and read the article on FI trouble shooting and also the scanned FI manual (check earlier posts). There are other systems, but the Porsche system works well if clean and adjusted correctly. Might check out:

Well, the first thing to do when you have running/driveability/"Obviously it's the FI" problems is to check the ignition system. Examine the points (if you still have them) for pitting, etc., check the dwell and timing, make sure the spark is big and fat and healthy.
Next, if you're really set on swapping out the FI for a more "modern" equivalent, you can check out www.sdsefi.com/index.html . If I recall correctly, you'll wind up using many or most of the components in the original FI system (unless you want to spend the $$ for ones made by another manufacturer), so that may not be exactly what you're looking for. Good luck! --DD |
