Voltage fluctuates from 14-10V

My voltmeter on the 73 914 2.0L jumps from 14V to 10V when I depress the brake pedal. What's going on?
Thanks,
Xerxez

This is normal; the voltmeter gets its signal off the brake switch. Not an elegant way to do it, but it works.

It has that tendancy to "flick" down to around 10V, depending on what other loads (lighting, stereo, etc.) you have "ON".

Best accuracy for reading voltage & charge is off the battery with a multimeter.

Yep, mine does that too, and I have no known charging or electrical probs so I figured it is normal. The stock console gauges are next to worthless in terms of accuracy & repeatability of readings.

I guess one good thing about the console voltmeter is if it ever reads over 13.8V or so, then you most likely have an overcharging problem (voltage regulator).

The fuse, S9, in your car is exhibiting a high resistance electrical open (it's bad). Clean the contacts and replace the fuse.
If this is not the problem, one of your brake light lamp circuits is exhibiting a high resistance short (this is unlikely).

Thanks! I'll try replacing the fuse tonight and clean-out the contacts on the fuse connections. Now...I just have to find out which fuse S9 corresponds to on my fuse block. Can anyone help me find the fuse diagram on the Pelican Board?
Thanks,
Xerxez

There are 12 fuses in the block, S1 through S12. I forget, right now, which way the sequence goes, L to R or visa versa.
