Green with a Red stripe

Hi all;

I have an issue with this wire. When I changed the coil awhile ago (restoring) I thought this wire went to the - side of the coil. I just turned it over and found I have no spark with it hooked up to the - side. but when I unplug it I do. Right now I have only the black wire to pos. Tach (purple black) and green from the dist to the neg side. This wire also has a small amount of current coming through it. Could it possibly go to the + side for starting? Any help would be appreciated. I have scoured the forums but couldn't find any discussion on this wire just the black, tach and dist ground wires.
Thanks
DK

That's for the oil pressure light. The "idiot light" sender is near the distributor, but screwed into the crankcase.

The wire that brings power to the coil (+) terminal is black and should have a red stripe, though the red can fade a lot over the years. The tach signal wire connects to the coil (-) terminal, is black with a purple stripe, and is thinner than the coil power wire.

The wire from the points/condensor to the coil (-) terminal is green.

That's the sender for the light.

The white wire is for the fuel injection. That is probably the wire for the thermo switch, which is elsewhere in the vicinity. On the 2.0s, it is on a bracket sticking up from one of the legs of the plenum. Not sure on the 1.7s.

Are you just randomly connecting wire in hopes you'll find the right one eventually???

Maybe you should spent some time looking here first:

Thanks for the verbal lashing, just what I need. I left everything attached when I dropped the engine and just unplugged and re plugged when necessary because I’m a novice, if that, and learning as I go along, and probably just @#$%$% it up. Why don’t you answer this for me Einstein? I have replaced all engine gaskets and oil seals. I have oil pouring down the side of my oil filter when I crank the engine. I see nothing obvious. I have changed the filter and saw nothing out of the ordinary. I know I’ve screwed up somewhere but don’t know where. Can you help?

Can anyone help?
Thanks
DK

Glad i could help!

Did you replace the seals on the oil cooler? If so, you probably pinched one when reinstalling the cooler. It's easy to do. The cooler sits right above the oil-filter which can make it look like the oil is coming from the filter.

Thanks Andy. I did and I'm sure your right. I've already printed out Mr. Boyden's Tech article and will head to the PParts dept. I needed a dash cover anyways. But before I do I need to be sure. Which means an oil bath I'm sure. Oh well the wife will get a laugh out of it while she is cranking it over.

Thanks again Andy
