6 Oil Cooler

I'm running a 2.7 motor and I want to fit an external cooler in addition to the one on the side of the motor. Any clues on where to put it without chopping holes in the front of the car?

See the tech article on 914 oil coolers. In the "914 tech articles" section of this very website.

Sorry, can't help.
Mines in the nose where all self respecting oil coolers live.
I cut lot'sa holes........no CW here.

Installation wasn't fun, but my engine loves me for it.

What year is your car?

In my '75, i insalled 2 oil coolers into the steel part of the front bumper. Unless you are looking, you cannot tell that the bumper has been modified.

I put mine up front behind a fiberglass spoiler. It was used when I got it, and I'm not sure who makes it, but it will hold a small cooler, without cutting the front , or trunk floor. There are also brake cooling ducts as well. There was a spoiler like this on eBay a while back.

I used a Troutman thermostate is back and SS lines down the side behind the rockers.

I didn't even paint the spoiler, it is still in it's original white gelcoat. Note the cone damage on the passanger side!

Thanks for the info. Whilst i would like it in the front I think it will have to go under the back.

Joe:

I'd also be interested to see your arrangement. I'll have to install an oil cooler in mine once the engine rebuild is finished. Bob G.

I could only find these 2 pictures. There is a push fan under the
cooler.... Ontop I am making a sheetmetal cover that covers the cooler than narrows to a 3x3 tube that jogs out toward the inner fender.

We have put oil coolers on the underside of the trunk above the right axle. We did that to Chris Campbell's Ravenna, did that work, Chris????? You should mount the oil cooler on 914 fuel pump rubber mounts, then surround the exposed area with some screen so rocks don't flip off the tire and put holes in your cooler and ruin your weekend at the track.
