More hp without engine change

What are some mods that i can do to the 1.7 other than bigger fuel rails? Turbo? Are they available. Input welcomed!

You can change the USA pistons on the 1.7 to the ROW flat top pistons. This along with some minor tweaking of the fuel pressure and MPS might give you 10hp more. Not really worth it for the amount of work involved. There isnt much you can do with the stock motor/ fuel injection.

Bigger fuel rails will do nothing except look nice. You can put a turbo on the car if you are creative enough. I've seen it done before, but by the time you are done, you could build a pretty decent type 4 for the money.

The biggest stumbling blocks with the 914 are the stock fuel injection camshaft and the cylinder heads. To make any kind of (real) power, you'll need to address these two items.

Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?

Might think about losing some weight to the car,or change gearing.
If it were me I would buy a 2litre and play with gearing.
YMMV

Definitely gearing. Find an A,F,M,S,X alu 901 gearbox from an SWB 911 and put 3rd through 5th into your gearbox. It's real horsepower, as in increasing your mechanical advantage through gearing puts more power to the ground...

Interesting.
I have a 1.7 in my 914 too. I did see a turbo on one once but it was all custom and I am sure it was not a 1.7. major money.
The stock fuel injection is just a slow reacting beast. I rebuilt my whole set up, could not tell any hp difference but a little better milage.
Duel Carbs easy bolt on will be quicker reacting. Last I looked a good set will be about $1800 new.

I agree.

Switching to carbs will do nothing if you keep the stock FI camshaft. You can get a little bit more out of your 1.7L by adding SSI heat exchangers but that's where the bolt on performance mods end.

McMark over at 914world.com is working on a turbo setup for the stock 1.7L motor and so far it looks very promising.

Losing weight is a cheap way of increasing your HP to weight ratio.
Also, if you want a bit more responsiveness from your engine, remove the decel valve.

A real header will give you a measurable bump in power. Especially the ones from Tangerine Racing Home . They're quire a bit of money, but the best is never cheap.

Is it hooked up correctly? "S" is suction, "D" is "druck" (German for pressure), and "R" is return. The letters are on the pump right next to the fittings.

If you plug the electrical wires in the wrong terminals, the pump either won't spin or it will spin backwards. (I forget which.)

yes and spin backwards. Im going to take the pump out put the s and d lines in a gas tank of good fuel and the r line to a empty tank and run it. i should get really strong flow if the pump isnt gummed up. wish me luck!
