I love this photo...
These kinds of roads is where the 914-6 GT really shines and almost "illegal fun" to drive. Until you actually drive one, you won't understand.
This particular photo is one of my favorites. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317676408.jpg |
You do anything to temper that stainless after welding? You wouldn't want chrome carbides and denuded zones in a high stress area like that.

Nevermind. I re-read the label and saw it is 304.

Chassis Stiffening Kit Custom Fab - Rear
This is your more common rear stiffening kit made available over the years from several sources to the general public.
Instead of using this pre-formed kit, we decided to custom fabricate all the pieces for a more exacting fit. We also decided to use 1/8 inch material for a more rigid and stronger reinforcements. Take a look... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317746247.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317746265.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317746281.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317746301.jpg This is the shop "hydraulic press" we used to form the 1/8 inch stock. In retrospect, I wish we hadn't done that since it is now very difficult to tell the chassis was ever reinforced. It also takes away from trying to duplicate how these 914-6 GT cars were originally finished. I suppose I can go back and add the rosette welds, we'll see... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317747185.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317747200.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317747213.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317747227.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317747243.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317747361.jpg |

Dog-Ear Reinforcements + Spherical Bearings
This section will show the installation of the 'dog-ear reinforcements' and also the spherical bearing modification vastly improving the rear suspension pivot points.
I'll start with some sample photos of how the factory implemented the dog-ear reinforcements in the 914-6 GT race cars. Take a look... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317752580.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317752914.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317752943.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317752984.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317753009.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317753027.jpg This is the beginning of our fabrication process... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317753051.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317753084.jpg Trial fitting the factory 914-6 GT headers so we can determine how it will clear the long reinforcement bar. Hey Armando,
out of curiosity, which /6gt came with this mod? This is something I will look at doing to my /6 (2188) when I start to redo my car again. It looks like it is pretty straight forward, were there any unforseen problems? Top notch work, great documentation Thanks for the effort. John Edit: Those headers are fricken beautiful, can you share the story behind them, and I am curious how long it took you to source your parts. |

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317769943.jpg ...it is none other than chassis number 914.043.2542, see here The Nurburgring #2 Porsche 914-6 GT S-W 1948 - sn 914.043.2542 Photo Gallery by 914-6 GT at pbase.com If you take a very close look at the above photo, particularly the pivot trailing arm area, you can see part of the lower body reinforcements. The photos posted following the "Collier" owned factory 914-6 GT, also have this modification. I will try and label those photos later tonight. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317769852.jpg Quote:
(bumpers, front valance, rear shocks, 906 crankshaft, camshafts, etc.). I have been collecting 914-6 GT parts for many, many years. Don't ask me why I did, there is no reasonable explanation, other than I've always had a love affair with these mid-engine 914-6 cars. :D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317769874.jpg |
Talking about exhausts...
...well, look at what I got in the mail today! :D
PS: The photo makes the headers look very rusty, they're not. "Mucho $$$"... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317771034.jpg |
