Specs and pricing for a 912E Eng

There is a 76' 912 E eng for sale I was a curious on HP/Torque and fair pricing they are asking 3K,..with carbs being robbed of a few parts,..??? Thanks Frank

I believe they were rated at 88 HP. They were the same as the 2.0 914 engine internally, but they used L-jet EFI instead of D-jet, and they had thermal reactors and a smog pump both. The engine numbers were on the fan shroud instead of the case, I think. Basically a smogged-up late 2.0 914 engine, so pretty nearly identical performance.

Note that some simple bolt-on mods can boost the power right up to the 95 HP level of the 73-74 2.0 engines. Basically, replacing the exhaust with a better one and disabling or removing the smog pump will do it.

Oh, one thing: If you're even thinking of moving to CA some day, don't bother with a 76 912E engine. Those still have to be smogged, and some of the smog-required parts are very hard to get ahold of.

If the engine has the smog pump, thermal reactors, and tin, all of which are unique to the 912E it may be worth buying as a core and selling off those parts. I've seen nice used 912E thermal reactors sell for close to $1000 just by themselves.

an oddball engine to say the least,not many made in that spec,but 3k?? if complete maybe someone may pay that to get to smogged 912e going,but with the carbs??? don't think so.
