A few more engine parts needed
Hello all, I'm just about finished with a fresh 2.0 and need advice on a few more parts. I will be putting carburetors on the engine and already have put in the performance web-cam/lifters, also I have 2.0 euro pistons and a stock crank. The question is which size webers should I use for this setup? 40/44/48? I'm predicting high gas prices this summer, so will putting idf 40's save on gas mileage but reduce power? and vise-versa will 48's give me more power while sucking up gas? I've looked around and found that cbperformance sells weber idf 40/44 for $610.00, is this reasonable for webers, has anyone found them cheaper anywhere else?
The other part I need to replace is my clutch. I had a 6 spring sachs clutch on before, but the disc was full of oil. Should I replace it with the same clutch setup or would I gain anything by using a performance clutch(if sachs makes one). I remember reading a past thread about a 'sachs 7 sports clutch'? Have you considered Dell's? The 40's are said to flow as well as Weber 45's. They also have a better progression circuit. The guys at the track last weekend were impressed with how smoothly they come off idle. They mostly run Weber's and complain that they are not good for streetability. Not sure if the prices are comparable though. I paid $250 plus shipping from Italy for a total of $300. But then I had to put $200 worth of jets and such as well as $50 worth of rebuild kits. For around $600 I have a beautiful set of "used" Dell's. They are rebuilt like new but they are not "new". That sounds like a pretty good price from CBPerf...thats where I get all my carb parts. Oh yeah, don't forget about having to buy the linkage and air cleaners and velocity stacks and fuel pump if you are converting from FI. Man, now I think I remember why I refuse to look at the receipts!!!! ![]()

Most applictions I have seen on a 2.0L use Weber 44s with 32 mm venturis. The Weber Manual recommends 44s. You will have to jet them for your engine.
Using the smaller 40s with 28 mm venturis would give you better "off idle" response and possibly better torque at lower rpms. Small carb=low end response, Large carb = high end breatheability. The worst that can happen with the smaller carb is a reduction of rpm at the high range as they won't flow enough air/fuel. The engine will "flatten out" (kinda like running a marathon and breathing thru a hose). Of course you could change the venturi size in a set of 40s to match that of the 44s. Used 40s with manifolds and linkage generally go on eBay for $250.00 to $350.00. Rebuild kits go for $30.00. Used 44s will go about $100.00 higher. There are deals out there, but new is nice!
