Ok my 914 starts, runs when you give it gas, but the thing will die and not idle. I here about adjusting the idle speed, no luck, I have good fuel flow, I think, and it is still fuel injected. Whats going on here. Here's the info. I need help!!!
'74 914-4 F.I. Starts when gas not pushed = dies when given gas runs fine sometimes spudders or surges when driven at 3K rpm or floored very occationally back fires / gurgles and ......sometimes the key turns and it starts and sometimes the key turns and no kick over but you can hear the fuel pump. What the deal here guys?

more info
It's a D-jet, I have checked the hoses and a few were disconected, but I have reconnected them. I'm going to replace all the hoses vaccum and fuel. Also my distributor is sticking so the timing is way off, it sounds and feels as if it occationally runs off 2 pistons.
I recently meet a local German wrench man who only works on Porsches and for the last 40yrs. He said it could just need a good tune to flag down a specific problem. I'm about as clueless as a monkey in water!
