Engine number on 74 2.0
I went to look at the serial number on the engine of my 74 2.0 and i found that there is a hose running in the area where its supposed to be . The hose attaches on the drivers side of that area. Does any body know what that hose does? And why it is there? The number is under it. And I dont want to move the hose without knowing what it does. I dont want to screw somthing up.Also, there is a number on the case in front on the battery side that starts with a Zu.

The hose attaches to the flashback valve, if stock. Just pull it off to see the number and push it back on.

The "flashback valve" (hey, it's what the manuals call it!!) is an odd-shaped "T" connector with a screen in it. The screen acts as a flame trap in case of backfires. The other end of the hose in question connects to the right-side cylinder head, and is part of the Positive Crankcase Ventilation system.
What Mark's German said--pop it off, and then pop it back on again. If it is cracked, replace it. EDIT-- Oh, yeah. The thing that starts with "ZU" is "ZUNDFOLGE 1-4-3-2". (Or close to that.) The word is German for "firing order", and it simply denotes the order in which the cylinders fire. --DD
