I have a problem with the GT flares

I followed the instructions exactly and they are solid as a rock. My problem is I'm completing the body work and just purchased the GT rocker panels. When I fit them up, they are ~7/8" short of flush with the flares on the rear wheels. they are perfectly flush on the front flares. I built some spacers and measured each wheel to the center of the flare and they are centered perfectly within 1/16" on all 4 wheels. Had I installed the rear flares such that the rocker panels would work, then the 916 rear fender would not have fit properly. As it is it lines up perfectly with the fender flare. So, do I have a problem with the GT flares or what did I do wrong.

Back in the day when I put flares on my 914-6, I was told by a couple very knowledgeable 914 folks to put the rockers on first, aligning the jack hole (if there is one) then do the flares. Otherwise they will not line up and the rockers will have to be cut and modified.

That is my understanding as well. If you do the fenders first, you have to modify the rocker panels if you want them to match.

Let me clarify my earlier post, all three pieces should be fitted at the same time. The rocker goes on first, generally with clecos or tape and then the front or rear flares with clecos or tape. Generally the fronts go first as they have less wiggle room to move around.

Fit the flares and then build the rockers to match. The flares are a welded part of the body and need to be perfect. The rockers are trim and should be modified to fit and match up with the car. These were handbuilt cars so there is no one size fits all solution.

Modifying the rockers should be pretty straight forward. For me, I would want the flares perfectly positioned and then make the rockers fit.

mine came up short i split the difference and it turned out fine . nt much i could do about it anyway since I went with plastic rockers
