Fired up new carbed engine - need help
Hello everyone,
I just fired up my newly rebuilt engine equipped with Webers (44s) and ran it for 15 minutes at 2k RPM to break in the cam. I wanted to run it longer but I noticed that it started blowing oil out a threaded hole in the case on the driver's side at the 15 minute mark. Did I miss something here? (I had the engine rebuilt by a reputable shop - I just stuff it in). It made me think a little about crankcase ventilation since I do not have anything in place (yet). Any suggestions for ventilation when using Webers? Lastly, I could not get voltage at the stock wiring for the old fuel pump. I by-passed it by temporarily connecting the new fuel pump to the battery. I have replaced the 25 amp fuse on the relay board and have exchanged the fuel pump relay with others. Idea? Thanks, DWH |

LOL! OK, now I can drag out the suggestion about the thermostat pulley! (See earlier oil leak thread when I confused left and right...)
No thermostat, right? No thermostat cable, right? No thermostat pulley, right? No mounting bolt for said pulley, right? You need a bolt in that hole--it goes into the case. BTW, if you don't have the flaps on the motor you really should tear the engine tin off and install them. They are a Good Thing for the health of your motor. Best is to have the whole thermostat system hooked up, but it is Not A Good Thing at all to have the flaps completely removed. --DD

Thanks Dave. I must say that this is a little embarassing.
Did I miss something this obvious regarding the fuel pump voltage (lack there of..)? New fuse, flipped a few relays - nothing. How do you know if a relay board is bad? |

Dave,
No need to reply. I looked up a 2 month old post from you regarding fuel pumps on carbed engines. I will rewire it. Thanks, DWH |

Oops, forgot that piece of your post. I was so excited that I could actually use my earlier note about the bolt-hole that my brain totally lost the other half of the note!
