not starting

My 74 914 2.0 FI

rebuilt the engine and put it back in with all new plumbing and cleaned all the wiring. turned the key and nada, not even oil or alt lights. the only click came from some kind of a silver rely box located under the pass side seat. the clutch and gas cable were not connected at the time. wondering if this was the problem i hooked up the clutch cable and pressed down then clevis pin broke so i'm in the process of fixing this.

my question ........... does the clutch need to be pressed down to make the connection or is there another issue ?

thank you.......

Another issue. No oil or alt lights means no power to the dash. Check your connections at the battery, at the relay board, and all fuses.

DME Relay? DME debuted in the general marketplace a decade after this car was built. Power for the pump comes from the second relay from the rear of the board. That relay is activated by the analog EFI control unit, which gets its power from the 3rd relay from the back. With the key in the run position, unplug the power relay. Plug it back in and see if you can hear the pump run for 1.5 seconds. If not, try the same thing with the pump relay. If it doesn't work, get a wiring diagram and start testing the sockets. "30" in the power, 87 is the output, 85 and 86 are power and grounds that operate the relay.

Good luck!

i over looked a poor harness connection which cut off my power, problem solved.
however, the car just cranks and doesn't start. fuel pump kicks on i have spark, cold start clicks and relays seem to be ok still.
my question. .. is there a way to prime a new set up for a dry system or do i just keep cranking..

thanks........
