Firewall Bushing Adaptor?

I'm (slowly) starting to collect parts to do the side-shift conversion on my '72. Is the adaptor Pelican used to sell bushing NLA? If so, any other sources, or do I need to post a WTB?

Check with Patrick Motorsports, Automotion, 914Ltd., or Auto Atlanta. Someone should have one in stock. Remember you need a different crossbar and all the parts below the shift knob to the transmission to do the swap.

Hi Chris -- Is the Tangerine Shift Rod Bearing a direct replacement for that firewall bushing adaptor? I did not make the connection, but that makes sense. It's the last piece I need. I had good luck with my last Tangerine purchase (MPS repair kit). Good quality and good, clear instructions.

It's perfect in that application.
It fits on the firewall just as easily as on the later cars and the ID is sized for a stock sideshift rod.

As an update, I've recently added a groove on the aluminum to retain the rubber boot.

Ok, cool. Now I am wondering if I should just go ahead and get the precision shift adjuster, too!

I dunno, he may wind up feeling bad about hiding such works of art in the center tunnel and under the car....

Not at all! Especially if it makes shifting less of an adventure than it is with my current tailshift (and allows my wife to find 2nd gear without grinding)

In my heart I'll know there's a work of art in there.

I understand the factory shift rod bushing allows linear as well as slight angular movement while shifting. Does the Tangerine product also allow these motions without placing undue stress on the bearing?

Yes, it does. I believe the white part in there is a spherical bearing, which allows rotation as well as sliding movement.

Parts arrived today, Chris. The instructions look outstanding (as usual), which is something I particularly appreciate. Good stuff! Probably going to be a few weeks before I can do the install though....

Also received my Boge/Sachs shocks from Pelican, but still waiting on the springs. Today I also picked up the side shift tranny and linkage I'm going to use. Wow...parts and projects are piling up. Good thing it's a balmy 25 degrees in the garage.
