"Hey, if I pour another $5K into my 914, I'll have thrown (probably) $15K into a 914 that will be worth $6K... Maybe."

Thoughts like that enter my head every time I think about that new engine, 5-bolt conversion, paint, etc. LOL!

wonder what this guy would take if you showed up with cash on the spot? guess he's gone down from $48k to $45k in recent months by the sounds of it. heck, if it's been for sale going on 4 years already you'd think he'd be ready to deal. I might even have a job before it's sold!

You only do those things because you want to. The way I see it, driving an old car like a 914 or 911 will probably cost you $1000-$1500 per year. You might go a few years spending very little but then you'll spring for a $4000 paint job or new motor. It's worth it if you're keeping the car for the long haul. And it's not an investment!

I remember that car from the magazine - it really is a beautiful car.

Although it will be interesting to see what he sells it for, if ever. I think he is dreaming at anywhere near $40K (not saying that would not be a good deal, esp. give what he has in the car, just saying the market can be very cruel to cars like that).

I'm a pretty cruel person.. he wont get it.. EVER.

People will pay to have this built (over a 8-10 month period) but they wont cash out in one solid chunk. I have customers who pay a little bit each month towards their "dream".

People will PAY for their own "dream" like Brad said, for their own custom car.
When you sell that "dream" you are lucky to get $.50 on the dollar. I am in construction and have built some of those "million dollar" dreams that I couldn't live in and don't sell either!
Now that car I could drive but not for that kind of money. I would rather buy someone else's half-finished project for $.25 on the dollar.
I figured out I have put in about $5000 in 7 years into my 914, not too bad.

Damn sweet car I'd say

I have not seen it since he put the 3.8 into it , but overall it's the same car, but faster...oh yea!!!!

He might sell it at that price....people dump 45k on new cars and trucks everyday....why not spend the money on something you really want....

i'm surprised he didn't sell it a few years ago with the dot.com money explosion scene, i know if my stocks had been worth anything I'd have no problem dumping them to buy a car like that......too bad, so sad...I've got toilet paper that is worth more than my stock now

hmmmm, wonder if my credit union would finance a car like this??? LOL

Is this the same car? License is different, but I think it is. Man that has been my dream car for almost a year. I drool over that thing every time I see it! In fact I had planned on going with that look, except for the wheels. I sure would like to see it in person.

Same car.

I'm sure for a deposit he would drive it to you and let you drive it around.

Hum.. thats a good idea. Charge for joy rides.

Can I say something ?

I ****** hate the 916 bumpers.

Its pretty rare that I dislike something on a 914.

Those bumpers just kill it for me.

916 bumpers? I like them when they are installed well and fit properly. Panel gaps need to be straight. They really look bad when just cobbled up. Standard or GT style bumpers seem to be easier to get right.

916 bumpers

uhmmm..... I know how rare and valuable cars 916s are, but donīt like the bumpers too (Sorry Jeroen). Especially the rear one. I wouldnīt ever chance the 914 bumpers to 916 style.

The silver 3.8 914 is absolutely something I like. It is nearly straight from my daydreams.....

Hey Timo,

Don't worry, I don't like em either...
Personally, the rear doesn't bother me too much (it will get cut up anyway) but that front bumper look like crap. Looks like it would create a good amount of lift as well

I really like the bumper/spoiler that fiberwerks.com make

Nah... I think I'll just paint my 916 orange to p!ss off Brad

Cheers,

Jeroen

Just so everyone knows Speedo 959 posted MY picture of the 916. I took it at Daytona in 1982 (I think). The personalize lience plate is "BOBSLED".

Anyway the 916 bumpers are too heavy looking. I see guys bolt them on a stock 914 and they look stupid.

What I want to know is what are these wrinkles in the front trunk and should they be there on a $50K car?

URY914,

I wonder if the "BOBSLED" tag refers to Bob Snodgrass, one of the original Brumos owners along with Peter Gregg? Is that the Gregg 916, originally featured in Road & Track magazine? In what year did you take that picture?

The BOBSLED is for Bob Snodgrass when he owned the car and it is the R&T cover car 916 that was Gregg's. I took the picture in '81 or '82 at the IMSA Finale at Daytona. The car was later sold to a guy in Jacksonville which when through the car and replaced the interior with a Porsche Design fabric than it was sold to Hussey in Atlanta.

I also used to go to the IMSA finales in those years. Good time of year for a race in Daytona. I guess I missed the 916 in the infield. That was about the time I locked my car keys in the rear trunk of my 914! Oh no! LOL!

Now I go down for the November HSR historics. In fact I plan to drive down friday for the weekend. Rather attend an IMSA or ALMS race, but the HSR events are okay.

James,

the placement of those dents... tells me somebody (Ernie King) carried a small floorjack around with them.

Thanks god I didnt start a wild fire with my "hate them" comment.

Now for the reason: I HATE when somebody gets in a wreck or plays bumper tag.. takes the insurance money and lives on it for 3 weeks and replaces his/hers steel bumpers with the cheapest Fiberglass ones he can find.... GUESS which ones are cheapest ??
