Chalon 914
What is the consensus on these Mitcom built Chalons?
I think they're pretty cool. ![]()

You have opened a can of worms so to speak! From what I have seen on Pelican and the other two 914 websites is there are those that think they are okay as an expression of a customizer's art and those that hate anything that is not stock 914! So the answer is......if you like it, get it.

Thanks John i had a feeling that would be the response.
But did they have added performance? This isn't just a body kit it is an original car from the Ca co that made them.

AFAIK, the Chalon kit was indeed just a body kit. The engine could have been a stock 1.7, or a 350 Chevy, or anything in between. Usually people who went through the hassle of converting the body did go for a larger motor, but it was not a requirement.

one thing to watch out for with these body kits is that frequently the kits were installed on wrecked cars. fast and inexpensive way to "fix" the car without having to purchase new metal parts and doing welding.
I had one years ago, and yes it was a collision repair car. they look fine to some, not so fine to others. many were poorly executed by do it your self owners, so inspect any potential purchase carefully for collision damage and shoddy installation. |

IMO the best and only body kit for these cars if thats what you are @,but as mentioned it has to be done right, the panels need to be correctly attached/bonded to the shell they are mounted to.
All panels most be supported on the edges also otherwise stress cracking will appear in the f/glass and its a PITA to fix. Spent years in fiberglass and the biggest problem with car body panels is lack of quality control, many have inconsistant thickness and are often pulled from mould to early resulting in distortion as the part sits on the shelf curing and not on the mould supported, there are other problems but that will give you an idea. The 911 section guys are having lots of grief with poor fitting replica bumpers and spoilers as we speak. There should be a book "101 ways to fiberglass wrong" cause I've seen it all. Is Mitcom still in business?.

AFIK, Mitcom Co. was owned + operated by Allan Mittleman out of Southern California. I haven't seen or heard of any signs of life from the Mitcom Co. for decades.
