Steering Column Problem

Well after several hours of eliminating why my 75. 914 1.8 wouldn't crank I found that the ignition switch was bad. Replaced the switch and cranks perfectly; however, during the process of disassembling the steering column I pulled the steering wheel shaft out of the "fixed" sleeve and I can't get it to go back in place so I can reinstall the steering wheel. What am I missing???

That crush bush should be fitted into the top bearing from the back,as you already have the "C" clip off fit the bush back into the bearing first it should then go on together, will check mine and edit if required...she how you go,cheers.
