Shifter question. Please HelP!
OK, so I am restoring a 914 that I bought already taken apart. So I am flying blind.
Attached is a pic of the engine compartment where the shift rod protrudes thru the firewall. next to it is a shaft with a round knob, similar to the shift bearing fork setup. I have several shift rods in boxes, but for the life of me I cannot figure out what is supposed to mount on this knob. Perhaps I am missing a crucial part? Please help!! Jim ![]()

missing parts?
here are the parts I rounded up, thinking I had them all. I have a few boxes I can search thru, but pretty sure I have not seen the parts listed above.

So all those parts you have pictured are for a side-shift transmission ('73 and above). I'm pretty sure what you're seeing at the firewall is for tailshift ('72 and before). What year car do you have? You may have a mixture of parts, if I'm correct. Does this make sense based on what you know about the car?
I have a '72 that I converted to a side shift. In addition to the parts in your picture and the actual tranny you need a conversion bushing for the firewall. Best bet is to get Chris Foley's from Tangerine Racing. |

i agree, it would seem the car is set up for a tail shift. I am putting a side shift in. and all the parts I have are for the side shift.
I will check out the tangerine site. I really appreciate the knowledge!!!! Thanks!

Ok, now what I'm seeing makes sense.
![]() Here's the part (shift rod bushing) you need: Tangerine Racing Transmission/Rear Axle Products The bushing goes at the firewall where the shift rod is protruding at the firewall (the right one in you original picture). You can then lose that other piece that's protruding from the firewall on the left (parts 40 and 41 in my pic). Good luck! |
