Question real 914-8 which engine?

I was just curious, which engine did it have?

I saw Daves tour pics, but no engine shots.
I would do a search but I'm too lazy, probably keep getting chebby's anyways.

IIRC it was a 908 engine - a mechanically fuel injected boxer-8 of around 3L and approx 300HP (don't have details handy).

Hey Chris,

What's that little transformer for mounted on your passenger side engine tin?

Fire bottle. This was Piech's car; it had the full-on 908 race motor with MFI. Also had a racing fire system. The silver car was Ferry Porsche's, and had a de-tuned carb'ed 908 motor and no fire system.

The orange car was very definitely made out of a pre-production car. It had a number of features that they tried out that never made it to the production 914. Double headlights, the different front turn signal lenses, the external fuel filler door, and so on.

Some more pics of both cars:

It is a tach adaptor for the Crane ignition (to work with the stock VDO tach). Not a very pretty gizmo, but it works.

For a second I thought you were assuming the 914-8 in the pic was my car, LOL, I wish

Why I asked was because I was at one of the local breakers (Dom's) last week and sitting there was a 928 engine.
I figured the 914-8 must of had an aircooled.

Got the juices flowing, a 914-28 cool, thought about it for a minute, then reality set in.

Stupid reality.

Slide valve injection - instead of the throttle butteflies rotating, they slide out of the way.
