5-bolt conversion tips?

I will soon have all the bits needed for my 5-bolt conversion, does anyone have any good tips on the process? I have a printout of BeeJay's rear conversion instructions and they look good. Is there much to doing the front end? Thanks

Nathan

Hey, I am in Richmond, VA and have just completed the 5 lug conversion on my '74. Not sure how far you are from me but drop me a line and If I am close by, I'll help. You are more the welcom to come see the end product on my car.

I have the ALL the tools needed. I have the one used in the BeeJay's instructions if you want to use it.

I did the conversion. Your question could be more specific as the job will take you through several aspects of automotive mechanics from brakes to alignment to torque values and the use of some special tools or improvised ones. If you get in a jam, ask here as you are sure to get a response to a specific problem. Many here have done this as you already know.

My biggest problem was installing ventilated rotors from a 911 on the rear. That is not a straight forward deal. To keep it simple, use the stock calipers and the 914-6 rotors on the rear. My 2 cents worth (M2CW).

Milt and all,

I'm trying to sell my rear vented brake set up..
I worked out all of the issues and this is a perfectly good bolt on set up... all of the machine work has been done and my used set up will save a lot of headaches...

I've ran these on the tracks for years and there great.
This pair of rotors were new only about 8 days of use ago, and are perfect...

did I mention this is a bolt on set up...
milt if you still want vented rear... drop me a note.

Kerry-
Thanks for the offer, I'm in Sterling, VA just west of Fairfax (but I'll probably do the conversion in Burke, just south of Fairfax)...where in the Richmond area are you? I'll let you know when I get all the bits together for the conversion.
Milt-
I am using OE 914/6 rear rotors so it should be easier to work w/ my stock rear calipers. I'll be sure to post questions if I have problems.
Thanks guys, I can't wait to post pictures...but it probably won't be for a month .

No problem.. I used a '74 911 front end bits for the front and the 914/6 rotors and re-studded hubs in the rear.

Just let me know what you need.

I am doing the same deal. HMeeder recommended using the older(73 and newer) rotors for the back because they have thicker material. I will be redrilling these, and the hubs (if I can get them off). Ill update as well.
