Fitting a Rennshift Performance Shifter

I see that pelican sell a Rennshift Performance Shifter ,do these just bolt on to where the existing Shifter is or is there modifications you have to make .
I'm having a GT build done with an original 6 engine and tranny and would like to fit one do they add to the driving experience
Thanks Brian

The basic Rennshifter bolts in place of the original gear shift lever. It offers a reduced throw and new components, plus springs that push the lever into the 2-3 plane. It won't be much of improvement if the rest of the linkage has worn out and sloppy bushings.

I have a Rennshifter in mine and its a very nice piece. Just make sure to change all the other plastic bushings in the linkage and the firewall bushing. (Tangerine racing has a nice one) Also consider changing the plastic bushing in the shifter console (sideshift) to a bronze one as the available plastic bushings seems to have the wrong dimensions. (available on Ebay)

I had one of the original Renn Shifts in my 9144-6 race car and as noted I made several other mods. First was to replace the firewall bushing such as the one that Patrick Motorsports in Phoenix sells. Next is to use a sealed aircraft coupler in place of the flex joint and there are race shops that sell these. Next was a new bushing at the transmission and I did not use a metal one but a type of nylon. Last of all the transmission was overhauled and all internals were replaced or repaired. The bushing that I used at the transmission was a stiff nylon instead of the bronze type mainly so I would not possibly wear the shift rod. To make things tight I put several wire ties through the bushing hole and would replace them yearly.

This worked so well I could shift into 1st gear at 25 MPH during a race such as the circuit races I did in Mexico where we had some very tight U turns at the end of a street! As noted above the parts need to be upgraded otherwise it is a waste of $$$$.
