I'm not sure who could fix it for you, but I think I read recently about a 911 tank having patches soldered in.

If you happen to give up and buy a replacement I will buy your rusty one from you.

I've seen a few on evil bay for sale that have been brazed for small holes and patched for larger holes. Find yourself a good out of work metal artist who needs some cash.....Who know's, it may come out beautiful...

Keep in mind that one solder blob, or weld blob, that detaches from the inside of the tank will wind up costing you a whoooooooole lot of $$$. Six motors ain't cheap...

I know one guy from the Rennlist 914 email list who did the rust repair thing to a Six tank. He said that, figuring his time at $5/hour and adding in the initial cost of the tank, he would have come out ahead on $$ if he'd bought a new one.

Dave - The filter is between the tank and the engine.

I recently did the POR-15 gas tank repair kit thing to my gas tank. Although it didn't have any pin holes, I'm told that the kit will actually fill small holes. By the look of the finished product, IMHO, it will work on an oil tank. Cost is $50.

Actually, I think the oil comes from the engine to the tank, into the filter right away, and then dumped into the tank itself. Then it goes to the engine. If you have junk in the tank it goes right to the engine.

This was from looking at the oiling diagram in the 911 Performance Handbook.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

speaking of filters... if you run an external cooler... how bout a filter in line to protect the cooler. it does happen and a filter is a lot easier to relpace than a cooler.

Mr. Adams is correct.
Also, the tanks are copper plated inside to prevent corrosion. IMO, this is no place to be screwing. NOS tanks are available.
