Key bites, would not turn to start

The key goes in but would not turn to start the engine. Is it the locking mechanism? Can it be fixed or I need a new one with a key?

Sometimes I have similar issues with my car as the key is worn. Just playing with it seems to do the trick. Does your key work fine in the door, hatch, and glovebox?

Also ensure that you're steering wheel is not locked. A you know, a locked steering wheel will prevent the ignition lock cylinder from turning.

The key works OK with door and hutch locks. I had issues for the past few years, I would play with it and it would turn. Yesterday it would not, luckily I was home. I thought of spraying white lithium grease on the key and it worked at least for now. I would buy a new one but I am not eager to spend $250.00 plus for it. Anew key may help, mine seems worn, Porsche should make keys to last more than 38 years !!!

Your ignition lock is worn out. If the key work in the door and hatch, the key is good.

The lock needs to be replaced.

A locksmith might be able to replace the worn tumblers, if that is the problem.

I sprayed white lithium grease on the key and it works great, at least for now.
