offset question
Can someone please explain to me about offsets for the wheels on these cars. I have a 1984 944 and I know it has a different offset from newer models. I have spacers on the car right now but I don't know what the deal is. There are so many wheels out there for newer offsets but I am hesitant of ordering them because I don't know if they will work.
Help me out guys thanks |

I think I found my offset to be 23mm and the new ones have 52mm. I want to know if a 52mm offset will fit on my 1984 with the 23mm offset. I also have spacers on the car but I don't know if they will help.

Check the site at URL: http://www.cantonia.com/watercooler.html
and look under technical info for a table of wheel offsets for the 944. During a conversation with the folks at Wheel Enhancements, they were not ken on adding large spacers to the 944 due to the extra stress that this puts on the wheel bearings, especially it the rear where there is already a stock 1" spacer. You would need to add about 19mm to go to wheels with 53m from the 23.3 stock on the cookie cutters. The price of spacers or spacer/stud combos is NOT cheap. Also, anyone out there with experience of fitting C2 rims (replica or otherwise) to the early ofset 944??? I think that they look great on the pictures that I have seen, but thes have been on late offset cars. ------------------ RAD |

I've seen what looks to be the start of stress cracks on a replica wheel made for the early offset cars. Behind the spokes, the paint on the wheel was peeling away. The owner also believed that this could be early signs of a big problem. For that reason I'm not sure that I would chance it, at least with heavy wheels w/out spacers.
