runs without heat sensor connected
1983 944 runs only if I disconnect the wires going to the heat sensor located in the block close to the front. I have tried another sensor from a running 1986 but engine still shuts down when it is plugged up. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks, again.

Disconnecting the temp sensor tells the DME to run richer, so start checking out the fuel system and looking for large vacuum leaks. Check fuel pressure and see if it is in the normal range, also check out the AFM and its connector.

This is a good test to remember folks.
Also a few voltage tests will isolate problems real quick. Now when was the last time any of you replaced or retensioned your timing belt?
