It's so every 10-20 years(depending on amount driven), the car will be new, all over again

Mine should be new again in a few months

ALL cars used to have 5 digits. A 100,000 mile car was worn out, and worthless a few decades ago.

Think the 944 went to 6 digits in 84.

Anyone?

I think that was part of the 85.5 year interior upgrade?

5-digit odometers were common well into the 1980's. They stuck around a bit longer on American cars I think just because there was more of a corporate parts bin.

Looks like a late dash into an early 944.

BUT! It also looks like a 911 as there is a hatch something on the left fender.

Many want the tach readable behind the steering wheel and rotating it is intentional to get the higher rpms at the top.

Could have recessed the instruments a bit further.

You guys crack me up! Yes is is my '86 Carrera. Good call SoCal on the tach. It is easier to just look down and know that redline is straight up. I rotated the speedometer because I want to be able to see the higher mph.

I don't want to seem like an a-hole but wouldn't you want to tilt the speedo more, and the tach less? I mean now the useless range of the tach (past redline)is taking up valuable part of the visible portion of it.

The 911 guys are always abit, tilted...

well, the purpose of positioning the tach so the needle points traight up at max rpm is so the driver can "see" redline through his lower periphery without having to take his eyes off the road. He knows that when the needle points straight up, he'd better think about shifting.

why do you need to know when you hit the RED line?
Isn't that what the revlimiter is for? when the revs stop change gears and if you don't have any more gears and you run out revs you shouldn't be looking at any dam gauges. So who real cares. LOL

I'm not impressed with the pic! I'd like for Kurt V to wait till he got to the curve, THEN take a pic driving with one hand through the turn going 100mph!

wouldn't mind sitting in the driver's seat on that picture though. I can just feel the setup for that left hander. Where is that by the way?
