FAST HELP with bleeding please

my friend is trying to help me bleed the clutch.
after he starts pushing the pedal, i open the bleeder vavle on the slave about half a turn, once the pedal is 3/4 down i close it and wait for him to bring the pedal up, and repeat. nothing is happening. the pdeal is still being sucked to the ground. what are we doing wroing?
thanks

probably nothing, check the fluid level in the reservoir. once the fluid comes straight out of the bleeder valve without any air, you're successful. go on to the next wheel and do it there until you have done the whole car. once you tighten the bleeder valve up again and pump the pedal, it should feel solid. hope this helps for now.

oh jesus!! READ THE POST RONIN!!! sorry about that, thought you were doing the brakes. it's been a long day.

I've had a similar situation with an old Datsun 710 station wagon years ago. the car had been sitting for a while and when I got in, the clutch pretty much just fell to the floor. since I had no tools or anything available to me at the time, I just started to pump the clutch for about two minutes or so until it was firm again. I think this brought the air to the reservoir and let it escape somewhat. you might try that for now and see if it starts to firm it up a bit and then go back to bleeding it.

oh, and be sure not to open the bleeder too much when bleeding. open it to where your friend feels a little resistance while pushing in the pedal and make sure you close the valve while he is still moving the pedal downwards. IOW, don't let him stop moving the pedal until after you close the valve. you probably are doing just that but I'm making sure.

ok thanks for the help ronin
turns out i had the rectangular peice that screws onto the master pushrod all the way in. he wasnt fully releasing the pedal the whole time.
glad to have it done. it took me 8 hours to replace both the cylinders and a few minor things.
perhaps i will have the dealer tackle my wiring problems afterall
