I never got into organized street racing like that. When I am out and it's not too busy and at the front of a red light i might take up a challenge or two every now and then. But it's never anything like a high speed race. It's more of an out accelerate the other guy type deal. You know, to say to the other guy screw you and that girl in the front seat with him shouldn't be so impressed with his civic. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/wink.gif

Road racing is definately dangerous!...Too many idiots out there that think they know how to drive...No one wants or expects anything bad to happen...but THAT IS WHY THEY CALL THEM ACCIDENTS!...
I stay within 5 of the limit as often as possible, but I like to let it all hang out if the way is clear on an off or on ramp with curves...It works for me...I have only had ONE ticket in the past 12 years!!!...and that was SEVEN years ago....and no accidents...Leave it to the Civics and Mustangs.....Cus |
Z-Man, back off me. If you can't SEE down a road at 3 AM if there are cars there, then you shouldn't be driving period! I don't pass cars on the road at night if I'm driving fast or racing.
Do I wear a helmet? Nope..but it's my life, no one elses, and my choice to not wear one. I work in IT too, and I get called in at 2AM, and I can drive the 30 miles from home to work, THROUGH town, and not see a SINGLE car. This area is DEAD then, and if someone wanted to race me on the highway, I definately would. As for Deer and crap like that mideast, if I hit one, it's me and a dead deer...no worries there. |
PrerYDoG... guess you have no family, parents, friends, etc that would miss you.
(to be honest, I get on it when I have big open spaces and traffic is non existant or very thin. I take it easy when passing and definatly keep track of my surroundings. If I bite it, my wife and children will miss me and my paycheck) |

Owning and operating a car, whether a 944, 911 or a civic is a big responsibility. When you are on the road, other drivers have expectations about your maturity and ability to operate your vehicle in a safe manner. Street racing, demonstrates your lack of maturity and tarnishes the perceived value of the Porsche name. Wana race, get a civic, wana be a man, a upstanding member of your community, take it to the track. Sorry for being hard but someone needs to stand up and help get you on the right path |
I ain't no freegin' redneck...
IT'S A PUN! (sheesh) Doesn't ANYONE get it? Shaun - what do you do? (you seem to loaf as much as I do at work....) |
Street racing a 944na is dumb. Not only for the reasons like endangering innocent lives and higher insurance rates (they are good reasons), but what cars can you really race in an n/a? The only cars we can beat, it won't be by a big margin, and the few that we can beat by a big margin are in the sub-100 hp crowd-whoopty****ingdoo. Every other sports/sporty car made today will smoke us even if our cars look faster. 944s are exotic looking cars in a world of cookie-cutter copy cars like Chevys, Toyotas and Honda. 944s also look a lot faster than they really are. Unfortunatly, when teenybopper 944 owners race their cars and lose to geneicmobiles, the other guy tells all his friends how slow the 944 is. They, in turn, tell all their friends and then no one wants to buy a 944 and the value of our cars continue to sink. See, you kids are shooting yourselves in the foot when you race. Ok, maybe I kinda exaggerated my point a bit.
Seriously 944na guys, don't streetrace, you're embarrassing the rest of us. |

But if you want to race someone and make the 944 na look good race these cars:
1. 91 3000GT SL-160hp and 3500 lbs 2. 97 BMW Z3 1.8 3. early Ferrari Mondial (later ones are fast) 4. 912, 911T 5. other 944na These are the only cars we'd look good racing (and beating) in our 944na. |
Roadracing doesn't have much to do with horsepower... I'd love to show you what a 944's about, what state are you in?
I've road raced a lot of 'exotic' cars, it can be surprising what you can make these cars do. Road racing is all about handling, accurately estimating how much room you have, how the conditions will change, etc. Confidence in yourself, your car, it's handling and brakes help. Horsepower would have to be at the bottom of the list, as the owners of more than a few Vettes, Camaros, and an NSX, as well as the S2000 owner should know. Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver... |
yeah, I've been to enough track events to know that the nimble 944 na is a giant-killer on a track but street racing is normally done between stoplights and on the freeway, horsepower matters in those races.
But streetracing is really childish and dangerous. |
HELLOO! There is a DIFFERENCE between STREET racing and ROAD racing....!
You guys are STREET racing... geez. |
SHAUN - you need to hire me - I have to sneak around here to play on this BBS - people keep coming into my office.
Don't know anything about web design, will that hurt my chances? |
I should of never had started reading this post!
I got pulled over today for the first time ever. I was doing 49 in a 35. I wasn't even sure how fast I was doing because I just pulled it through first and a little bit in 2nd. I'm surprised I got going that fast b/c it was only in a 1.5 block radius then i had to turn onto a street heading to my house. No ticket luckly though, but by the time the cop got me I was at my house. So he told my parents now I'm grounded for 2 weeks from my car. I'm almost frickin 18 too, and i've never been pulled over for anything but they will not lay off me. My brother before he was 18 got pulled over like 3 times but just got yelled at. Thats no fair! hehe I have to run up to a place that is 25 minutes away to get some stuff for my car that I need and my parents will not let me! grrr... So hopefully the next 2 weeks come quick or my parents take it easy on me and it will only be a week. I don't see why they wouldn't since I've gone almost 2 years without ever getting pulled over and will be 18 in less than a month. Wish me luck! haha ------------------ Penz 1985.5 944 My 944 page |

Hang in there...My younger brother got all the rules and problems because of the stuff I did. Home by midnight, no girls in his room, good grades or no car etc. You are right, it's not fare. You should be judged by your own actions... |
Maybe it was FARE in Olde English?
|
Shaun... how do you think I got to have a son.
I guess you are kinda slow, must be the automatic... just kidding... |
Penz man, who bought your damn car you or your parents? Who maintains it? I wouldn't stand for that crap. I am 18 too and my parents could never pull that off on me i wouldn't allow it.

You are learning a lesson that took a while to get through my dense head. My ride when I was 18 was a 58 Alfa Romeo 1300, (arch rival to the Porsche speedsters.) I bought with $635 which was all of my paper route and odd job money. The beauty of that 1300 cc motor was that you had to drive the *&#p out of the thing to get even moderate speed. I though I was flying. Well that turned out to be a lot of cheap safe fun. The downside was that the continual 7000 RPM driving mode got me nicknamed "Roaring Dan" by the neighbors. If I had only had the good sense to get at least a few blocks away before I roared, or cooled it for a while before landing back in my neighborhood. Then they would have figured I was a more responsible kid! I guess that is one of the advantages of a turbo. Requires more warm up time and unless one wants to sit in the drive at idle for a couple of minutes one can just put put the last couple minutes while on approach to the neighborhood. "Oh those turbo boys are such angels."
Recently I've seen a 928 as well as a Mercedes 600 that probably lost it at over 150 mph. Not pretty. I no longer cruise at the crazy speeds that these guys do. As good as our superhighways are over here in the Emirates, the safety of the track and race car preparation are missing and there is no freaking point, exept to endanger lives and cause undue wear on the vehicle. Judicious spirited driving? Yes. Racing on a public highway? NO! (The cop in the first situation seems to have taken into account the situation and judiciously awarded a reduced citation.) Most of us need some form of a wake up call from time to time and probably even the traffic school guys got the message, which is the real point and duty of the traffic division. Respectfully, Diverdan |
I don't know if Florida is any different, but you have to go to court to get the traffic school. If you pay the ticket it goes instantly on your record. You'd better go to court.
