Rollins, thats exaclty what I'm talkin about! It's my car and no one elses.
I am paying for the car, the insurance, and the maintence. Of course, I still get *****ed at and grounded. I think thats dumb considering for what I all pay for, never been pulled over, and will be 18 in less then 1 month. ------------------ Penz 1985.5 944 My 944 page |
2 Speeding Tickets:
-60 in a 45 -90 in a 65 4 Fix it tickets: -Illegal modification of air intake -Illegal modification of exhaust (no cat) -Violation of noise ordinance (uncapped headers) -obstructed windshield (BS ticket because of my Porsche decal in the blue-tinted area) all filed under my personal folder CS (CHICKEN *****) ------------------ Sorry Officer, my bag of crack fell and while trying to reach it my gun got wedged in between the gas and the brake causing me to speed insanely. |
I think you all are making WAY too much of a big deal about this. I'm sure EVERYONE on this board has been challenged on the highway by some hotshot in a Mustang or a RiceBox and felt the need to teach him a lesson. I'm sure most of us have gone a little fast around a twisty corner because we know our 944 can more than handle it. Is speeding 'right'? No, not really. Is road/street racing 'moral'? I suppose not... but we are all guilty to some extent, and I don't think it's right to criticize someone for admitting they took part in a road race.
Another thing... someone mentioned running their 944 in a quarter mile race... WHAT ARE YOU, CRAZY?!? The 944na has no low-end torque to speak of, therefore is very sluggish off the line compared to a lot of tuner cars. The 944 picks up a lot of power higher in the RpM band, because it is designed to have power when exiting corners instead of ripping off the line. A 944 is an outstanding Autocross car. but not a drag racer. Someone also posted a list of cars that a 944 can successfully 'beat.' If you are challenged on the highway, your 944 stands a good chance against a great many cars... it is a Porsche, after all. I'm sure you've felt the rush of power that you get when you downshift from fourth to third - well, that is where the 2.5l Four shines. Off the line, the 944 doesn't stand a chance against any new car that is even remotely sporty... unless you have enough road. If you do have enough road, it may take awhile, but you WILL beat that 5.0L Mustang GT... but, once again, that is not what the 944 is made for. I tend to avoid races and occasionally 'give in' when I am challenged... but I do love the twisty roads that are in the foresty areas near where I live, because nothing holds a corner like a 944. Nothing. |
Thank you CJ...very good post
But i have to say that i have no problem against most new sporty cars off the line...the mustangs camaros and firebirds are a different sory though...they will rape me off the line... But the Celicas, Civics, Nissans....psst http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/biggrin.gif ------------------ 85.5 Porsche 944 |

why do turbos need a few minutes of calm driving? driving my mom's 87 lebaron turbo and sometimes i just gun it right after i get off my street. is this bad for the engine? maybe i should go over the manual... |
My girlfriend has an 89 lebaron turbo. The turbos in those things are so small that I don't think they do substantial good anyway.
|
they're small but they up it from 93hp to 150hp i think. Not positive on that though. So that's still some boost, but I know what you mean. Only fun thing about that car is the top, but pretty much handles like ass, and its an auto. Damn I wish I had money
|
In '89 the 6 cylinder base model came with around 140 hp. In the turbo you're looking at around 170. The turbo helps but it's my understanding that a large part of the difference was in exhaust. All in all it's not a bad car, but not a great one either. My girlfriends had well over 130k miles (the odo stopped there) when it blew. She put a new engine with only 60k on it in for under $1000. The thing is easy to work on. But in my opinion it is ugly and very uncomfortable. I am a big guy so that is a problem for me. But she is relatively small so she likes it. I fit better in my 944 than in her car. Go figure. I also looked at some info on the 87 model. You are right about the non turbo engine being around 100 hp, but bear in mind it was also only 4 cylinders. I am pretty sure that the turbo engines were 6 cylinders. Oh well, if you want a real turbo car get a 944. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/wink.gif
|
the 4s had turbos too. i'm 6'3 and its fairly comfortable. much better than my mom's celica. this ones got 150k. replaced the cyl head not long ago along with lots of other small annoying crap. trans is a little jerky but still holding up. but enough about those, i'm hoping i can get a 951 sometime next year, like you said, a real turbo car.

well let me the first to say that I REALLY didn't deserve my first ticket. It was my first night out, the day I recieved my liscence. And I was with three friends who wanted to get home and feel what the car had. I was going 60(the speed limit) and dropped it into 3rd(with no one around) and drove it till I hit 80 or so. Let off the throttle as I cruised over a hill (with the intension of going the speed limit the rest of the way) and found a cop who would decide to give me a ticket.
Believe me that wasn't my only bad experience. I used to have a blue neon liscence plate last summer until a police officer pulled me over, made my friend and I get out of my car. Search my car, and us, and after he searched us put me in the back of his car(without cuffs thank god)and wrote me a citation for my liscence plate. The worst part was the accident I almost got into after I was released. He still had his blinding lights on me when I was at the end of a right turn only lane trying to get onto another lane to get to the highway. I poked my head out and asked him to turn them off and said that I should just go. Well I guess he didn't realize that a few feet behind, a car just turned right from an intersection. Well I pulled in front of him and nearly hit the guy because I could not see his lights because they were probably an inch from my bumper. I felt like getting out of my car and hitting the officer, and right now even wrtitinng about it pisses me off! |
A few months ago my car was in the shop. My friend was giving me a ride home from work. It was me and another kid actually. So we took the other kid home first where a deputy sheriff started following us. We hadn't done anything wrong. The kid we dropped off was a black kid and he lives in a not so nice area. So we are driving along following the rules explicitly. We drove around 3 miles with the cop right behind us. Then finally she turned her lights on and we pulled over. She came over to our window (as two more deputy sheriffs pulled up). She asked for license and registration (she made me give her id as well even though I wasn't driving) and she proceeded to give our ids to another officer and she started questioning us. Stuff like "where are you coming from, where you going, why were you in that neighborhood, you have any weapons"? So we answered all the questions. So then the other officer returned and gave her the ids back. She told us she pulled us over because we had not come to a complete stop at a right hand turn. I don't recall if that is true or not, but obviously not abig deal either way. So after she asked that she told us she had to search the car. So she opened my friends door and cuffed him and then one of the other officers opened mine and cuffed me. They then sat us on the hood of her jeep, and one officer stood with us while the other two (her included) tore everything out of the car. After concluding the search they uncuffed us and allowed us to go on our way with "just a warning"......just a warning and a whole lot of **** to pick up!! I guess they must have thought we had bought drugs from the black kid or something, but I thought that searching the car like they did was totally uncalled for. It was also a very embarrassing experience as we stood there on the side of the road for the better part of an hour.

Rollins: Did they ask if they could search the car? Or did they say "we are going to search your car now"?
A cop (read pig) asked to search my car the one time I ever got pulled over (it "looked like" I was doing 5 over the limit). He tried to get me to let him search my car. I said "No." Over and over again. Finally, about an hour later, he let me go. If he had searched my car. I would have sued the Nazi ass Mother#*@)##! That's right. Cops who try to pull that kind of stuff are filthy man whores. And if they ever step over the line, I am going to litigate them off the planet. -Tabor |
well.. heh... I guess i might as well mention something.... I am going to refrain from stop light racing for SURE.... being without a car for a while had not only made me mature ALOT also being with other drivers (mainly this one girl i met at the dollar store?!) makes me wanna go the speed limit.... their erratic actions could be VERY dangerous to other drivers if they were going to fast to react quickly, and also the stop lights EEEK the people here are terrible about that and if i were to take off super fast then someone running the light might hit me.... or vice versa... its scarey.... and heh.. besides i might be driving a camper... stupid eh? well if i wanna keep it i have to get it put in my name and insured.. and i will not have enought money for my car too.. and the cops here are downright funny.... I was a TERRIBLE driver when i was driving and they never ever stopped me.. only time i been stopped was when i was on foot (3 times a week sometimes and they always let me go AND sometimes i have a additude - its mostly for being out at 4 in the morning) and also they suck! i was driving my mustang around (crapiest car you woulda ever seen smoke pouring out of exhaust and arizona plated expired 3 years ago...) 2 cops ended up pulling up behind me and neither even stopped me!!! i was nearly pissin in my pants. damn... never doin that again... anyways laters and drive responsibly... peace

I didn't object to the cops searching the car partly because it wasn't mine and partly because I didn't need any extra trouble. We knew the car was clean so we didn't fight it. I just wanted to go home. Last night i also had a fun heart sinking type experience. I was on my way to a hockey game. The main roads were busy so I decided to take back roads. The road I was on was sort of like a a square except that before I got to the last side of it is the arena. So I had to hit three 90 degree turns with woods on the sides of it. There is little margin for error as far as going through there fast. You over compensate either way and you can very easily go off the road. The speed limit is 25 throughout the whole thing, through the corners 15. I was in a hurry so I was going around 60 and like 35 through the turns. So just before I get to the second turn I was still around 55 and a cop just happened to pull around the corner. So I slow down and take the turn. I keep my eyes in the rearview to see what he does. He stops and turns around!!! I am like awww great!! here it comes. But he then turned his headlights off and backs into the woods. So I kept going and got to the hockey rinks and got inside. He didn't come after me. I totally thought he was coming for me though!! You gotta love it when you know you're doing something wrong and the cops just pop out of no where! I got lucky again thank goodness.

Were you people not taught? Haven't you ever heard of your amendment rights? You should NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVER let a cop search your vehicle. They have NO right to unless they have "probable cause" Which means..they see some cocain hanging out of you pocket or something in plain sight. If they have no cause I tell you they are searching your vehicle you can take them to court for an unlawful search. Even if you have nothing to hide..it's just a waste of both of your time. Again..you NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVEREVER EVER EVER EVER Let a cop search your vehicle/house/person. They have no right (unless you are at school..then yer screwed pretty much hehe). Look at yer consitiution....it helps you out. HEEED my advice, even if I can't spell well. =-)

Actually, in VA they passed a law allowing cops to search cars without probable cause. You don't get asked here, you get told.
|
Lord, I will NEVER move to VA (too bad, I like the scenery there) - First the ILLEGAL radar detectors and the SPEED TRAPS, and then LEGAL SEARCHES W/OUT CONSENT?
Geez.... |
Does anyone know the law in FL?? Are they allowed to or do they need probable cause? That is the second time I have been in a vehicle which has been searched (basically meaning everything got tore out on to the ground outside of the car)
|
In the US we have a thing called a Federal Supreme Court.
**** like that would never fly there. It probably wouldn't even hold up in the Supreme Court of the State of VA.(virginia?) |
Yeah, but if I have an ounce of marijuana in my car, and the cops illegally search it, the damage is already done.
Fighting it at that point is, well, a lost cause. |
