Interference engine
My 93 944 has stripped the teeth off the timing belt at the crankshaft pulley. Did i just bend some valves or is this even an issue? Hoping for the best.

You have a 93 944!?! Damn! I want it...I will buy it off you for 30 kilobucks! And all this time I thought they stopped production...what size motor does it have? Ok..sorry for being mean..I had to do that...Assuming you mean 83? Does the car run? I would definately be scared if i were you...You could have 8 nice paperweights.

Sorry 83, no it does not run, It turns over very nicely but the camshaft does not move. I had a turbo daytona years ago and you could break timing belts all day long without a valve problem. I was praying that the porsche might be the same

the 944 is an interference engine...the daytona is not. Yes, i'm sure you have damaged something. If you need a head I have one...gearhead290@hotmail.com if interested

No NO...your screwed...I am very sorry to be so blunt...but if your crank is spinning and your cam is not...you've got a nice juice squeaser...but thats about it. Those valves are 'bout as straight as Richard Simmons.

More likely 150,000 if not 250,000 as the odometer has 5 digits and not six.
And yes you have bent most if not all the valves. What were you told about the timing belts on the 944? The Haynes 944 manual will be a good start. See them all the time on eBay for $14. If you are serious about keeping the car then the factory workshop manuals are worth getting. About $300 a set in paper or from free to $20 as PDF's on CDR.

Thanks for the replies. Socal driver it is actually 50k. I have all the documentation on the car. Including the owner history and the milage each owner claimed when registering the car.

WOW!
What luck. Well maybe not as lucky as it would seem. The timing and ballance shaft belts should have been replace at 30,000 miles or about four years as they deteriorate to where they loose teeth. So what were you told about the timing belt when you bought the car? P.S. With such low milage you can get away with just replacing the bent valves and lappin in the new ones as long as there is no significant damage to the valve guides. P.P.S. Add your location and the year/model of you car to your info. Use the signiture line for the year and model.
