Ok I just replaced the inner and outer bearing today and noticec my rotors were WAY under spec. Anyway, for the past 3 weeks I have herd a muffled "clunk/slow pop" sound when the front right tire went over a bump or when I made a hard right or left turn. I was praying it was the bearings but alas It did the same thing when I pulled out of the shop today. Is something loose? or what would be some tings to look for?
On a lesser note. Where is the GD diagnostic port on a 85 1/2 944? I was going to adjust the idle but I could never find the thing. Many thanks, Ven |

Jack it up again, and see if you can wiggle the wheel on the lower ball joint axis. Sounds like minor ball joint seperation. Possibly lower control arm bushings. Other thing it could be is a loose sway bar or a broken sway bar bushing. Check it all.

You will need to get a caliper and measure the diameter of the sway bar to get the correct size.

Ven, I had the exact same problem. I checked all the sway bar bushings and even entirely removed the sway bar, but still clunked. I ended up getting a used control arm off Ebay that had the rear caster block on it and changed it as a whole unit. The clunk dissapeared. I check the old block and the rubber was breaking off.
I knew that it couldn't be the ball joint as it was very tight. [This message has been edited by marksportcts (edited 06-10-2001).] |
