Can you describe it with some more detail? Is it a rythmic noise or a single clunk when the wheel is turned?

Go up to your front right tire, put your foot at the top of it, and rock the car back and forth with your foot. If it more than wiggles on the tire (like the whole wheel wiggles) then you need to replace your wheel bearing (you should probably do both though). Wheel bearings will cause all kinds of noises from whooshing and squeeling to mind numbing hissing when your disc hits your caliper. Check that out first.

might be the lower control arms, they make a constant kind of metal on metal thumping.

BUSHINGS, go ahead and replace the bearing first. Then go back and replace the bushings. And that will probally fix your problem.

Ok, it is only when the wheel is turned not rotational at all.....I can precipitate it by just jerking the wheel shifting the weight of the car to the pass. side...on the bearings and bushings....can I get those in an Autozone type place or special order? How much and what bushings? Are there several?
Thanks |

Check out the front sway bar bushings. I had a front crankshaft seal oil leak and it leaked onto the right front bushing. Over time the oil wasted the rubber bushing away until it got to the point where the outer lip was gone and it just slid out of the bracket. When it finally slid out, I would get a thump whenever I turned. Had a hell of a time locating a new one. It is a dealer type item to the best of my limited knowledge. Someone out there might know of another car that uses the same size bushing that can be bought at a local auto parts store.

Sounds more like a bad ball joint to me, I would take it to a local Porsche repair shop and have them assess it.
If that is it you will need a new control arm. |
