this is a fairly easy job.......pry out the small tab beside the passenger side a/c vent..take the screws out.....take the glove box out.....more screws.....the trim piece
that holds the clock, lighter, hazard switch snaps out, the digital clock mounts to this plastic trim piece.......if your looking for the bulb try the local VW dealer, costs about $1.80.........the bulb will twist out 1/2 turn I think... |

Wow! Pry? No, don't pry anything off the dash unless you have tons of money to replace all those little plastic pieces that will break off. Here's how it's done. Open your passenger door. On the side of the dash is a screw that holds a black triangular trim piece. Remove that screw, remove the trim piece. You'll see a little screw holding the edge of the dash to the metal of the dash. Remove that screw. You can now start pulling that end of the dash face off. The air vent on the passenger side has that little tab at the bottom of it that moves the direction of the air coming out of the vent left or right. You can push this through the dash face. When you get to the glove bos button, there is a clip that holds the dash face to the dash board. Be careful here and work it slowly. If you can get your hand back there push it from behind. Try not to bend the plastic or pull on it too hard, it'll snap off. Let me back up. Before you get that that clip, remove the rosette from the airway for the climate control system. That's that little round, black plastic thing next to the cigarette lighter. To get that rosette off. Stick a screwdriver in a slot towards the bottom or top off the thing and try to move it clockwise or counterclockwise, It moves about an 1/8 of a turn and then should pop out. Behind it is another phillips screw. Remove it. If you do this part first, before the prying of the clip around the glovebox knob, the glovebox thing goes more smoothly. Next? Pull your knobs from climate control settings on the dash. Pull the two knobs, and also pull the two air mixtures slides. They should pull straight off. After you've accomplished that, You can pull the black plastic face from the climate control area. You may have to put a screwdriver behind it to get it off, but I hate the word "pry". Be very careful here too, 'cause that piece will come off in three or more pieces if you're not. After you get that off, there are two more phillips head screw holding the rest of the dash face onto the dashboard. Unscrew those and pull the whole she-bang towards you. You may want to pull the wires to the cigarette lighter, it depends on how far you want to get the dash face off. Yeah, like the other post, turn the bulb about a 1/4 turn and it'll come out from behind the clock.
Good Luck!! |
