I need some help,...
I know this is not about a porsche but I need your help because you guyz know what your talking about. I went to yotatech.com and that just dont know,... anything. I just got my truck back from a tranny rebuild,... the syncho for first was worn out. When I got he truck back I noticed the truck was alot slower through the gears especially in 5th gear seeing that I do most my driving in that gear. I noticed some oil on the exterior the tranny and transfer case,... it was clean and brown. I had drove the truck 500 miles after I found this so I thought that maybe I exclude the idea of them spilling oil all over it,... i clean it up with simple green,... I didnt really scrub it down,... I just sprayed it down really good and then then several hours later(about 12), I went ot drive to work again,.. did about 45 miles,... I went under the truck and smal a drop of clean brown oil hanging from the transfer skid plate,... all my plug are copper tip and new,... I just replaced the air filter with a K&N(just found out they are ****ty for the truck) but still **** load of power lost,... I changed the oil in the engine every 5000 like they told me,.. I dont know whats up. Thanks for your help. Zoltan please dont move my thread, thanks.

Was it the dealer that performed the repair or a tranny shop?
I'm sure I don't have to tell you, Take it back! The leaking alone is worth the trip. Did they pull the engine or drop the tranny from under? Check the routing of the plug wires and assure match the firing order. Rick

500 miles? The more miles you put on it before you take it back, the less credence your claim will have.

It was the dealer,... its under warranty. I believe they dropped the tranny,... but I'm going to ask them that. Yea,... so I called and told them and all I got was bring it in friday and we'll have someone take a ride with you. I know whats going to happen,... "It's a 4 cylinder,... they don't have that much pull in 5th gear,... It seems to be fine by me,...". I know this truck,... I put 30 grand on her in 5th gear,... I'm telling you theres a power loss,... it's slow damn slow! Well,... they have to take care of the leak anyways,... I have a list pf parts ordered but no where does it say gears replaced,... I mean if they change the gears and the gears had a slightly different ratios then yes it would slow the truck down a bit if the gears were slightly smaller. Smaller right? smaller gears means slower take off but higher top speed? Well,.. even if that was the case,... my truck does 80 in 5th gear at just a shy above 3,000rpms,... it did that before and it does it now,... it just a takes it a bit to get up there. If it still does 80 at 3000rpm in 5th gear does that mean the gears are the same or atleast have the same ratios oooor that doesn't matter? Some guyz said it could be because of a tight tranny? I don't know about that,... I mean how tight would a tranny have to be to slow a truck down that much and what inside of a tranny ges tight? If a tranny DOES get tight I would think that it would effect shifting but once in gear it should be all good? My clutch seems fine,.. no slipping or anything. Hey,... a seperate question,... about K&N,... I know some of you think the K&N's don't flow more air than paper but what about its ability to trap dirt? I heard they really suck at that too? Is this true?

I also calculated my gas mileage,... my truck get 16 miles to a gallon,... I drove 97.5 miles and topped the tank off with 6.097 gallons. My truck has a 4Cyl. 2.7L,... the toyota's aite says my truck gets,.. 18/21,.. I'm getting 16. I'm going to drive this tank down I have now and then calculate it again for a more accurate MPG.

sounds to me like they screwed something else up in there while they were doing the tranny. Take it back and just tell them what the deal is and that you are not satisfied, this happened to my dad once, and all it took was some serious complaining to get it fixed, ended up being a cheapo distributor cap and injector in his case, but just tell them the truck is no where near the same.

Its very easy to leave a sensor unplugged while performing a repair of this type. However, your Tacoma is OBDII if anything was left off the "check engine light" would remain on. If the fuel mixture is off much at all it would also show up. Another possibility is a dirty MAF sensor, the extra oil from your K&N does build up on the wires and will effect performance.
If they scan your vehicle they should be able to look at the fuel trim, misfire monitor, and pending codes. This reveals alot about the overall "health" of the system. Just my .02..

Thanks,... I brought it to them and they basically gave me the "It's a 4Cyl.,... how much power are you looking to have?". I told them that I am not here to have to guyz squeeze extra HP out of my engine,... I just want my original HP and my mileage back,... "Well,... for a 4Cyl. I thought it pulling pulling ok.". I knew thats what they were going to say. He said that maybe it's a sensor on its way out. they said they did not touch the engine at all and they did not change my ratios. I don't know what to do,... my MPG is still about 16 and the truck still feels sluggish. I am going to replace the fuel filter, check the plugs and check the MAF(even though I only had the K&N for a couple of days). They did say I have a leak though. They are going to fix it. They said it was a days work. I also want to run some of this stuff through the truck too,... BG44X? I think thats what its called,... I heard it's like really good. It's like 16 beans a can. I thought maybe I would flush the eninge too,... just for the hell of it. My check engine light is not on,... does that mean the wouldn't be any codes stored? I know how to read the codes myself,... I thought that maybe I would check those just for the hell of it.

Did you put on the K&N before or after you got the truck back?
I wouldn't screw around with it by replacing filters or messing with the MAF if it's under warranty. That'll give them an excuse to say "you screwed it up yourself...we're not fixing it." Try another dealer if you have to. But don't do anything that'll void the warranty. The techs will know and tell the SM it was your own fault. And take that KN off to see if your mileage changes back. And then pitch it in the closest dumpster. IMHO. |
