Thumbs down rear hatch problem

OK I have been play with the rear latch release and its driving me crazy. Ever since I have had the car I have always been unable to open the rear hatch using the button that is inside the car. If you push the button I can her the motor but it will only release one side of the hatch the other side is aloways stuck. I check the cables all looks good. I also lubed the latches and that didnt do it. Any Ideas???

Adjust the hatch pins, one of them is too far out, it latches too early, so when the release goes, it pops the one, then it releases the pressure on the weatherstripping, and there is nothing pulling the hatch up.
I had the same problem on mine.

The catch could also be out of alignment. With the hatch closed loosen the two nuts on each, wiggle the hatch a bit them tighten the nuts. Yes you have to do this laying down in the back.

While you are still there have some one operate the remote release and watch the two rods that go to each catch. Also look at the single rod that comes off of the release motor. This may need adjusting to get the proper throw.

Also - inspect the condition of the pins themselves. The alloy heads often develop indentations that catch on the holding mechanism causing them to hang up whilst attempting to release.

1) If your hatch shocks - you know those dealies that lift he lid - are weak it won't lift enough to release.
2) I gave up on my electric release and added a manual release via a choke cable type deal mounted on the hump to the right of the rear of the drivers seat.

If the hatch pins are properly adjusted, the pressure on the weather-stripping should be enough to pop the hatch up just a little, so you can pull it up.

Also check to see if your glass has seperated from the frame, This will make it hard to open as well
