Post turn signal stops blinking

I noticed the other the day that the turn signal stops blinking. The actual turn signal still remains lit. Any one have this problem before?

Actually, I've had the opposite problem ... blinking faster than usual, but figured out the problem quickly as the bumper blinker was disconnected.

Your problem seems directly related to the relay that turns these lights on and off ...

do your emergency flashers do the same thing?? if they do, it sounds like the flasher relay, it's in the fusebox of my 85.5

Mine does the same thing sometimes. Like inside the turn signal will stop blinking but on the outside its still lit. Just not blinking its lit like a headlight.

If turn signals begin to stop blinking you can be pretty sure it is the relay.

You can pick up a new one for 10 bucks at Pep Boys and even cheaper some other places. Just make sure you get an electronic timer one rather than thermal, for a 2/4 light system (not larger like 6 light to include trailer lights or it will blink like crazy thinking a bulb is burned out) and that has the numeric pin codes on the relay bottom rather than alpha codes.

White, LOL!

Actually, you need to be careful about that as they are doing some sort of price update and their database is all screwed up and it might cost you $30 bucks, as almost happened to me a few weeks ago!

Just go to the display rack and look them over with my above specs (and make sure you pay attention to match the relay posts and numbers!) and get that one. In the package description they will also mention that it has burned out signal bulb ability. Which you want.

These flasher relays are a real standard part, but there are about a dozen to chose from to fit all vehicles and options so you can't just grab any old one.

It's happened to me also. However, it wasn't the relay. It was the plastic inside the turn signal assembly. Does the lever come back to it's original position? But the light not go out. Or is the signal not canceling and the stalk staying in the turn position?

Rob-O, its just when you are at an intersection waiting..you turn the lever and the signal comes on and you can see the thing in the middle of the VDO flashing. Then the thing in the VDO stops flashing and the lever stays in position. It doesn't come back to the middle. In the car in front of me i can see the reflection of the signal and its just lit up like a headlight and not blinking.

Might you be losing the ingnition on feed to the blinkers? If you turn the turn signals on with the key out of the ignition the turn signal on that side of the car will stay on as a marker light so cars can see it at night.

Robo,

The turn lever stays down and does not return to the cancel position like you said. Can this be some plastic inside that is broken?

Well,

just went out to the local NAPA at lunchtime. The guy couldn't match the relay. It had vw audi logos on it so I decided to drive 3 miles down the road to the VW dealer. Parts guy comes back 1 minute later. Here you go. $27. It works.

Cannot say for sure but the whole assembly turn signal/wiper control on my 84 944 looks very similar to a VW rabbit I have. If it turns out to be a problem with the assembly look at a rabbit first.

Bought a turn signal relay that appeared to be the correct app. from P. Boys (correct prongs, etc), but it didn't work. Wording on package said something to the effect of: "Works with most foreign cars." Bought the right one from GPR for about $20.

Hmm...Porsche drivers who use their turn signals. Are we in the minority?

when a bulb is burned out in the particular turn direcction, the flasher will not operator. Make sure both bulb filaments front and rear are good.
