944S temp control fuse keeps blowing
Help! My 1987 944S keeps blowing a fuse. The dial that controls the interior temp. and well as the 2 sliders that control where air is directed don't work when this fuse pops. It seems to happen when I try to turn the A/C on--which now doesn't blow cold either. Maybe the fuse blows when the A/C compressor turns on? A new 7.5 fuse lasts no more than a minute. I'm out of fuses and ideas... any suggestions?
Thanks... |

You have a short somewhere in your HVAC system (most likely the AC system.)
This can be a tricky one to troubleshoot. Which fuse is blowing? AFJuvat

it's a 7.5 fuse in slot #29 in the fuse box. It's labeled Heating and Air Conditioning.
Thanks! |

Hey guys,
Did you ever figure this out? I have an 87 S with a new compressor that does the same thing, and I have three different control units and they all blow the fuse when the AC button is activated.

fyi, been trying to troubleshoot this problem, no luck, but I swapped out the 7.5 fuse with a 10 fuse and it hasn't popped yet and the ac works great. Still trying to find the real problem so if any has any leads let me know.
thanks

It is the magnetic coil in the compressor. It can be changed out with the compressor in the car. If you un-plug the elec connector on the compressor, and read the resistance across the coil, it will be too low. This causes a high amp draw when you apply voltage to the coil.
