Porsche-O-Phile 03-09-2004 08:41 PM

To do. . . hmmm. . .

1. Get an E2 and enjoy smoking all the ricers / M5s out here :D

Oh wait, there's that $100K+ price tag thing isn't there. . .
OK then:

1. New tires
2. A/C compressor & hose replacement & charge-up
3. Replace rear hatch "pins" so hatch will sit level (parts came in today!)
3. Some little stuff (3rd brake light kit, fuel filter change)
4. Replace rear deck carpeting (no leaks from rear hatch now)
5. Replace torn seats (new ones should show up next week so I'm told)
6. Swepco in the tranny
7. Check / repair cruise control computer if necessary
8. Replace all belts / seals / rollers & H2O pump in a month or so. . . Just had 'em tensioned but they're getting old.
9. New paint job

More-or-less in that order to get a "new" Phat-looking and mechanically excellent early 944 out of my beast.

Then get a 951 to keep it company and somehow convincing the wife to not castrate me with a rusty knife!

ntrylvl 03-09-2004 08:41 PM

I just replaced my rear speakers - requires taking the windows out. Stock speakers are 4x6's, but--surprise--there is space to upgrade to 6-inchers without cutting. Huge difference in sound quality, especially low/mid-end.

My to-do list:

Replace 2 bent wheels
Charge A/C (it's only March and 80+ degrees today)
Stop rear hatch from rattling (perfection not needed - will settle for progress)
Repair numerous small door dings
Upgrade to 968

Clarks has a good procedure for repairing the rear hatch. Did mine a short while ago,

Thanks, Uconn. Have printed the procedure for reference!

No problem, glad I could help

Blackfoot, what's wrong w/the 968, how much?

My to do list:
Replace head gasket
Don't run 18lbs of boost on 89 octane gas and go through the gears at full boost on warm day...
Ahmet

Nothing's wrong with the 968. $11.8k for Pelicanheads. You in the market?

- Fix damn dent that has been on my car forever (first had to wait until I saved up the money, then had to wait until the weather got nice and warm. I don't drive my car much in winter, thought it was pointless to fix it until I could actually drive the thing on a regular basis again)
- Unjam the cd changer and get back 12 of my favorite CDs stuck inside
- New stereo. Still have the stock system, with a 12-disc changer added by PO.
- Get new tires. Currently have quite a bit of tread left on the current tires, but I hate 'em.

Mechanically, my car seems to be very solid w/ no probs (knock on wood...)

toolboy62 03-10-2004 04:27 AM

my list...

1) replace gauge cluster with the one that just came yesterday so my odo will work

2) replace the dash backlights at the same time

3) fix cruise control if it still works intermittently after above

4) new motor mounts

5) repair rust around edges of driver's side quarter panel (looks like it was replaced, and not sealed properly)

6) reseal driver's side taillight at same time

7) get stock chip from PO so I don't have to run expen$ive premium gas

8) get new driver's side seat cover from PO and fix power seat functions at same time

wow, that is a long list... :(

I know it's a 911, but here is what I have done since last November:
1. Complete tear down and engine rebuild.
2. Backdate heat system.
3. Rebuild rear suspension and replace rear wheel bearings.
4. Remove rear bumper pads and repaint rear bumper.

Welcome to the 'dark dash' club! I've taken my dash apart three times now, and still don't have dash lights! I've resorted to using a blue neon Bling! Bling! light bar I bought in K-Mart for now...

So, here's what I've marked off the list last month:
1. New rotors & machined out calipers.
2. New front turn signal lenses
3. New front fog light trim pieces.

On to my 'still need to do' list:
1. Fix those stupid $%^#$ dashlights!
2. Replace rear speakers (got new ones -- just need to put them in!)
3. Take out radio/cd unit and fix loose connection.
4. Give my car a good detailing.
5. Paint the rest of my track wheels
6. Learn to drive faster! :D
7. Clean and paint my garage.

That's about it...
- Z.

I just wish someone could tell me what those bulbs are supposed to be. I have 1.5W bulbs in there now, but it looks like a W3W (3W) or W5W (5W) bulb would be a direct replacement... not sure which would be closer to the brightness of the heater controls etc. Also I have no idea what the stock bulbs, a W3W or W5W is actually listed as at an American parts store... (i.e. Mazda number)

Blackfoot, I can be for the right car though I hadn't planned on it quite yet, and I think I'm looking for a broken one... You wanna e-mail me some details/pictures?
Ahmet

Your bulbs may not be the problem: I have a short on the circuit board that it very. very difficult to hunt down.

jts924s 03-10-2004 07:39 AM

1) find missing WMD
2) develop cure for West Nile Virus
3) move to California, run for Govenor
4) learn to hit golf ball straight

-- See how much time I have on my hands now that the Porsche is gone.

TCMdocs944 03-10-2004 08:20 AM

Dash bulbs can be best procured by removing them, going to NAPA and asking for replacements. They pull keep trying until they get it right.

Yes NAPA....Not NASA... although it is almost that difficult.

The problem is that the lights are really picky about how they want to sit in the early "holders". This will be the third time I go in there.

pearldrum 03-10-2004 08:33 AM

I've been lucky and my dash bulbs have been okay. They aren't super bright, but I can see the guages at night.

Lawrence Coppari 03-10-2004 08:48 AM

Second or larger oil cooler.

CJFusco 03-10-2004 09:01 AM

well now that I took care of some suspension and brake upgrades, my to-do list reads:

1)Tires
2)Sunroof trim
3)FRWilk chip
4)Swaybars?
