Angry Finding that stupid noise

Hey guys, Here I am agian talking about that GOD DAM rattle I cant find.
Today I got out of work around 1:30, so I figured why not try to find the rattle in the P-car, I set it up on jack stands and had my dad blip the throttle between 3500-4000rpm while I ran around trying to find this stupid rattle, First I checked for exhaust leaks, Found none, Then I checked all the heat sheilds on the P/s of the engine, none where loose and none where rattling, Then I checked to see if the shift rod was rattling, agian found nothing, I removed the shift boot to see if it was something in there, agian failed to find the rattle. I have no idea what it could be, Its not the drive tube because my car only has 86,000 miles on it and the noise is the same if the clutch is in or out. So here is a list of what I dont think it is

1. not the heat sheilds on the motor
2. not the shift rod
3. not the drive tube
4. no exhaust leaks
5. exhaust is not rubbing on anything
6. no baffels in exhaust are broken.

Agian the noise happens between 3500-4000rpm mostly when you let off the gas pedal, The rattle is A high pitch rattle sheet metal sound. It started making this rattle noise before I replaced my exhaust. It is loudest from the middle of the car near the bellhousing. Guys its driving me crazy PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!

How about the matrix for the cat? My Scirocco sounded just like that before big glowing chunks of matrix blew out the tailpipe

Toolboy; our Sciroccos were cut from the same cloth. That ball of cat material will rattle around in there for a long time!

Take your wallet out and place it inside the house. Then see if the car still has a rattle. If your car's Owner-Just-Got-Paid-Sensor detects available funds in your wallet, it will make the appropriate sound.

By the way, is everything loose out of the car when you check? I'm talking everything out of the cabin, glove-box, and center console. Also remove the spare, jack, and anything else in the trunk area, including the two fender pockets. Failing that take it to a shop who can put it on a lift while you rev the engine.

hehehe...

No I meant the heatshield on the car above the CAT. Its not connected to the cat. Its keep heat from the cat working its way up into the inside of the car...

It's a HUGE metal sheild above where the cat was. You can't miss it. Also, check the sheild right about the header, mine broke and it took me a good 6 monthes to figure out that was where my problem was coming from.

First, I want to say I am a newbie to this forum. I've had my 86 944 NA for 3 years now and just like this guy, I have been under my car at least a dozen times trying to find that same exact rattle. Except that mine happens around 2500 rpm. But I have an automatic ( I got the car really cheap ) so my harmonics are probably different. Anyway, I ve been going crazy also. I've checked that same heat sheild above where my cat was and I don't think that is it, but I'm to the point of taking every thin piece of metal I can find off the car to figure out where it's coming from.
