				In a related note.....

Called the dealer today about the 944 that ate the oil return tube last week. Surprisingly, Short blocks for the 944 are still available on an exchange basis. Retail is $4400.00 AFJuvat

Lots of money for a potential boat anchor....... I assume when they say "exchange" they want one that is rebuildable, though...and most times, when I have gone for a major part like a block or head it was because the original was NOT salvagable.

I've never really understood that...most people who buy engines to install themselves are fairly mechanically inclined. The only reason I would buy a new shortblock is because mine WASN'T rebuildable.

I would guess that Moneyguy1 is correct on the rebuildable issue. When I changed out the water pump, I had to pay the core charge. The impellers had eaten into the housing, so it was thrown in the dumpster. Boy did I get lucky!

For clarification, "everything under the head" does not include A/C comp, ps pump, alternator, oil pan. It is just the block, pistons, crank, rods. Generally you use the old flywheel and the rest of your old engine.

Bargains to be found everywhere at the dealer! In this information/online age you think they would get a clue. I wouldn't mind paying a few bits more from the dealer if: A. they had a knowledgeable, helpful staff B. It was only a few bits not 400-500%
