Can my car run too cool

what are the ill effects of running a 944 without a thermostat.....

the heat will not work..and teh car will never get to temp if you live in a cool climate...Unless youl ive in Florida ...I wouldnt do it

well you can be TOO cool. The car will never warm up to temp and you will run rich because the DME increases fuel while cold to get it warmed up faster. You will just burn a lot of gas, and fill the exhaust chambers with carbon deposits. Not to mention your 02 would prolly take a dump from not cycling.

The thermostat also acts as a restrictor, forcing the coolant to travel slowly enough to transfer heat from the metal to the liquid.
Therefore you are more likely to over-heat the cylinder liners and the head. The temp gauge might show a low temp, but the gauge will not show hot spots.

what exactly would be too cool......where on the guage......?????

I would say if it always runs on the bottom 1/4 of the gauge, it's running too cold.

That said, there are low temp thermostats and fan switches, that will keep it that low, so I'm not sure they're a good idea either.
As a general rule, the temp gauge should be between 1/4 and 1/2, that's where I like it best, any higher and I start getting nervous (unless it's 30 degrees, and I'm sitting in rush hour traffic, then I know it's normal)
