Looks like a fuel door flap.

yup it looks like the piece behind the fuel door to keep the gas from spilling on the paint. How it got into the tank is beyond me.

Are we talking about the big black thing or that little dime up in the corner.

That's exactly how it got in there

I was wondering that also - which one? The big black oval is the gas door flap - they have a way of tearing off (I know this) but getting INSIDE the fuel tank is a new one. . . The coin (maybe a dime, maybe a penny) I also don't know about. Maybe someone thought your car was a vending machine?

Am i the only one wondering how the hell something like that would get in there?

What kind of a moron decided.."hmm..i can flatten this rubber flap..stick it in there..and with the gas filler nozzle i'll push that ***** right in there.."

The flap is still outside the filler. The dime thing is just a hole in the piece of cardboard that I used for the picture. The black thing is what I got out of the tank. It is made of rubber about 1/4 inch thick and the only damage is the small rip.
1) There is now two questions WTF is it????
2) HTF it got in there????

do you have kids, Mine one day after I was done siphoning gas out of the car, was standing be side me and I spilled some gas on the floor I told him to put dirt on it, the next thing I knew he put dirt in the gas tank. He was seven years old man is he dumb and i was dumber, thank god I didn't tell him to get a lite. or light.

Maybe a part of baffling from inside the Tank.

from the shape of it, it doesnt look much like a sock.

maybe a dress sock, given its color.

i think dress socks were only spec'ed for the coolant system on NAs. Turbos are the only 944's that call for dress socks in the fuel system.

Hmmm....looks like the right size, shape and style to be part of a key ring. Ya know the crap that people like to attach to their keys.

Now, how it got in the fuel tank????????? Pure magic!!!!
